New 13,3 ″ screen Mobius E-ink goes into production

While we continue "Tasting" the possibility that we have in october or november a Kindle with a color screen, the news continues its course and other companies are developing their products as well as announcing the manufacture of many other panels.

When the Onyx Boox Max was first revealed to the public at early this year, among its greatest characteristics was its new and higher resolution for a 13 inch E-ink screen. An interesting initiative by this brand to which we were waiting for today's news to occur so that we can see a product with that 13-inch panel.

As that screen was not yet ready for production, the Onyx Boox Max was finally officially released a month later using the same screen that was found on Sony Digital's DPT-S1 device.

Now, seventeen months later, the panel is close to being ready. From a source close to Mobile Read it has been said that BEC, a Hong Kong-based electronics wholesaler, is now receiving reservations for the new screen. Samples are available for the new 13,3-inch 2200 x 1650 resolution e-paper panel. The plan is to begin mass production of the displays by the fourth quarter of the year.

The new display combines the latest generation of Carta E-ink display technology with the flexible plastic Mobius substrate, and will have a resolution close to 210 ppi. It is not as sharp as the 300 ppi found in the new Kindle, but it is better than the current 13,3 ″ screen with a resolution of 150 ppi.

We are still a year away from this screen being integrated into a new device that reaches the market and thus can be acquired by anyone.
