The eReader Onyx Boox Max already in pre-sale for 585 euros

Onyx BooxMax

One of the devices that got the most attention when it was launched was Sony's Digital Paper DPT-S1 a couple of years ago. Enthusiasts of these types of devices encountered disappointment in its limited features, since it only offered support for the PDF file format and for its price, 1.000 dollars.

The device that is already on pre-sale is one of the promises to compete in features against Sony and we can finally say that it really has a competitor with the Onyx Boox Max. This one has been on the website eReader-Store.de since yesterday in pre-sale for the price of 585. An eReader with Android that has everything that Sony's own does not have.

The Onyx Boox Max works under Android 4.0 and has a dual-core or dual-core CPU at a clock speed of 1 GHz. It is characterized by its 13,3-inch screen of electronic ink or E-ink with a resolution of 1600 x 1200, and has a sensitive screen pressure and a stylus.

It must be said that we still do not have all the complete specifications of this device, but it is known that it will arrive with Wi-Fi connection, Bluetooth, speaker and microphone, 8 GB internal memory and a 4.000 mAh battery.

We have previously known that, having Android, you can install different types of apps, so the limit of the device is in the applications you install. The units shown allowed this feature and offers support for PDF, ePub and other well-known formats.

The Onyx Boox Max will begin shipping in mid-April with a price of EUR 585. An interesting device for those looking for an e-ink eReader with a larger screen than we are used to with the Kindle or Kobo.

It is a much more adjusted price than the Sony there is no doubt ... but I would only consider buying a screen of that size if it were in color. What's the point of reading a magazine, a comic, or a science book on a black and white screen? And for novels I get 6-7 ″.

    Man, € 585 + VAT, € 700 (plus shipping from Germany)

It's a shame that these types of screens are so expensive. When there are 22 ″ LED monitors for 100 euros. They say it is a matter of patents, I do not know, but if so, hopefully those who have patents will dedicate themselves to earn less money and release them, they would do a great favor in the eyes of the world population. They could mass-produce them and greatly lower their price. But that's what there is. Children and those of us who are not such children would appreciate it. Not everything is making money.

Another thing, I think there is no free route for all the applications in the play store, you can only install some. Although the most important are. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Another issue is that it can handle a pdf quickly. To go quickly from page 34 to 248. The iPad does it very very well. Here it will be necessary to see it.

We are leaving the tabs on the laptop / tablet screens no matter how LED IPS RETINA they are.

Until now we had e-ink of 9,7 ″ masks (300 euros) but acceptable, the price of the sony DPT-S1 was laughable, 1200 $, (now they are selling it on ebay for 930 euros) with a mobile processor cheap. They say they are preparing a DPT-S2 ¿? ¿?

The format with which we study / work has been established in A4, and in large part PDF A4, a shame, if A5 (9,7 ″) had been set as standard we would not have a problem. More comfortable to carry, handle and cheaper.
Having to be resizing, moving a pdf in an e-ink is not operational. And adapting a pdf from A4 to A5 apart from the time it takes does not always look good, especially texts with images or columns.
To me an external screen of 13 that would be connected by usb to my laptop would be worth it.

So the 13,3 size for an A4 PDF is perfect. I would buy it even if it has no color, I don't want it to see comics or to see magazines, for my eyes it would go back to black and white.

    Sorry about the billet.

They talk about dates, but since the article doesn't date or at least I can't find it, I don't know what dates they refer to.
