Kindle Paperwhite Vs Papyre 630, an uneven duel at the heights of digital reading

Kindle Paperwhite Vs Papyre 630

Today The Kindle Paperwhite happens to be one of the best-selling eReaders worldwide since it has great opinions from all those who have bought or used it at some point and that thanks to the promotion that Amazon does of its products, their quality and especially their seductive prices, it manages to overshadow almost any other device that can be exactly the same in terms of performance or even better.

One of these cases is that of Papyre 630 which we analyzed a few days ago on this same website and that it has the misfortune of having to live in the shadow of Amazon devices and specifically the Kindle Paperwhite, having very similar characteristics and I would even dare to say superior.

Summary:

The eReader par excellence, with which Amazon offers us an unbeatable experience.

Summary:

A good eReader, with an attractive price and a design that will surely make you fall in love at first sight.

Externally, both devices are very similar and it is that both have a 6-inch touch screen, with a very similar size and a weight 16 grams less for the Papyre 630 that we could consider irrelevant. Both devices have a built-in light which will allow us to read in full darkness.

Internally, the differences are also minimal, although the Papyre device has twice the memory for storage than the Amazon eReader, although this aspect is not too important or relevant. In terms of speed, speed and agility of the device, both eReaders are very similar and Despite the speed of which the Kindle Paperwhite boasts this is almost priceless when compared to the Papyre 630.

Even in price these devices are similar and both can be found on the market at the price of 129 euros.

If you ask my opinion I think both devices are the best we can find on the market but I would choose the Papyre 630 after trying both though I would leave this duel between these two eReaders in a technical draw.

I have not had the luck to try the Papyre, although I did have one (the 5.1), and I currently have the Paperwhite (the new one).
I can say that I love the Kindle, the integration with the Amazon store is great, its speed, the light very good, the great dictionary as well as the new paperflip function ... but there are things that I don't like about the Kindle and where I think it wins the Papyre:

    - I don't like the Kindle's collection system at all. I used to love creating folders by genre (horror, science fiction, etc) on the PC and then dragging them directly to the Papyre… the kindle doesn't allow this.

    - That does not have a memory card. I'm afraid this will never change or at least in the short term. What Amazon likes is doing business selling books and cloud storage. I'm not saying that the 1000 or 1500 books that the kindle can carry are few but being able to put a memory card and carry your entire library, let's say 10000 books, perfectly arranged in folders is priceless. Papyre if you allow it and I love it.

    - Amazon does not want to distract you with anything and that is why on the reading screen it only puts or the page where you are or the "location" or the time left to finish the book or chapter (great by the way) ... but I miss having in one bar above the information of the book I am reading and the current time. In Kindle I have to enter the menu to see this information.

You just put the 3 big "problems" with Kindle devices in black on white ...

Too bad they didn't decide to make a dina4 size ereader.

    1.    mikij1 said

Well they have released the Sony DPT-S1 ... at a scandalous price that yes. Let's see if little by little they get more excited.

    2.    Villamandos said

Soon we will surely begin to see them in the market in greater numbers, you will see.

      A greeting!

To me there is a point in the kindle that is fundamental to me. You buy or download a book and email it to your device and it is there in seconds.

Of the two I also stay with Papyre. The amazon store makes me dizzy. In addition, Papyre is Spanish and we must support our work. Greetings.

Hello Ernesto, I share or shared your opinion about supporting ours, but lately I am seeing so much cacicada and so much nonsense that if they do not want to wake up I am not going to do it to them neither I nor my pocket (I do not mean by the boys of Papyre but by many entrepreneurs and companies in Spain) Oh and let it be clear that you are right about the Amazon store, it becomes dizzy to buy something there. All the best

Hello guys, I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you, let's go, the Kindle Paperwhite is not my devotion, but I think the first two points you mention are not weak points. The list of ebooks is true that they are peculiar but it is nothing that cannot be fixed with the Caliber, in terms of space and linking with the above, it is true that you have little memory, but you have the space in the Cloud that with the new improvements are going to be a big change, believe me. As for the third, I personally do not like to read with the marked time because it overwhelms me and finally I do not take what I have read, but it is true that some do find it pleasant. Here I am not telling you anything because the colors were made for tastes… .. Greetings!

Hi Joaquin. What do you mean by bossy and nonsense? The truth is that I do not know the stories of these companies. Greetings!

Sorry to intervene. I have only recently been in this community, so you will have to bear with me if I am not very aware. I understand that the discussion is about the benefits of the readers. I have one, but not a Papyre or a Kindle. I'm sorry, but I don't know what the qualities of the Kindle are, and I don't want to know them either. It is enough for me to know that if someone protests about a book in digital format that is on Amazon, they get into the device and goodbye! to the booklet. I don't like them getting into my stuff, and for that matter, if you've paid to download it, you have every right to keep it and enjoy it whenever you want.
For that reason I preferred a Nook. That one does admit additional memory (in fact I added a card, although I haven't needed it yet. It has internet connectivity, which I don't usually use because it's slow and eats up a lot of battery. On the other hand, I would look at digital newspapers, but only bring the North Americans, I am not interested. It is a reader with digital ink, so it does not have a backlight. To read at night, I have a light that I attach to the device and read comfortably. It does allow me to index the books and create folders according to how you want to categorize the books. I don't usually buy them, because I download a lot from another community that shares books of all kinds. In addition, the use of Caliber, Sigil and AVS Document Converter allow me to convert the texts to any format I need. Now, I am very satisfied with my Nook. I would like it to allow me to make corrections in the text (sometimes they are really horrible) but being able to read and enjoy them is enough for me. And it comes in handy when I travel, or when do I have to wait at the doctor, or anywhere else, without having to carry around a library of traditional books.

    Hello
I have not had the pleasure of trying the kindle but if the papyre 630 and the truth is going very well and it is quite complete, it also has automatic page turning with time selection for the page change that is great, the only downside is that they do not do covers that I like.
I also have the latest white 4gb nook model and it has me in love, the resolution is simply spectacular and although it is in English it is very intuitive, the cases they sell are beautiful and inexpensive. Yes I have to recommend one of course it would be the Nook Glowlight.

An advantage with Amazon is that you know that if you buy books with them when time passes you will have them because they will not close, what happens with the books bought in Grammata?

  9.   Juan Villalte said

    Good
At Christmas they gave me the papyre 630, and truth be told, I have no word against this device. So far my experience is quite positive. As for the books that I have bought so far, these are and will remain in my papyre, regardless of what happens to Grammata

Am I the only one who in all the videos and even in the header photo of this post sees that the Papyre 630 screen always appears with some reflection? I ask the author of the article who should have tried both: is the kindle sharper than the papyre or is it that in all the videos and photos some reflection comes out by chance? Thanks.

  11.   Victor Himmler said

I have the same doubt about the reflection that the Papyre shows in each video referring to it.
Is it something that also happens with other ereaders, like Amazon's?

Hello, I am interested in knowing if it is possible to turn off the light or not to the Papyre 630, or can it only be dimmed? Thanks.

    1.    Ernesta Susavila said

Sara, of course, you may or may not use the light function. It is not permanent.
      Greetings.

I have the papyre 630 and I could not be happier. I organized the folders as I want from the computer, period. The light is dimmable, I think it has a scale of 7 intensities and it goes like a cinema. It has nothing to envy to the previous sony prs-t3 that I had.

At the end of July 2014 I had the bad idea of taking advantage of Papyre's renewal plan. I delivered my wonderful Papyre 6.2 in good working order, and received the 630 at home. I charged the battery and found that the screen that should be clean appeared full of letters. Call and they told me they would pick it up. I asked them to solve it quickly (I used the ebook to study, I made my notes, passed them to the pub and used the papyre) because I was going on vacation and needed it to study (I had to take a course in September). Of course, the ebook did not arrive, despite the fact that I sent them several emails, telephone protests, etc., etc. I had to have all the notes printed (around 1000 sheets on both sides, it would seem like a lot, but I'm talking of annual subjects of the degree of History in the university). They sent me a new ebook that arrived, when I was away on vacation, it was received by a relative and I could not start it until mid-September, when the exams had passed. Well, that last ebook received at the end of August, in February 2015 (5 months after its launch) is not loaded. I sent a notice through the Grammata website saying exactly what was happening to the ebook, and they asked me to send the purchase invoice to see if it was under warranty. I sent it, they asked me to send the ebook asking me to make a backup beforehand. I told them that I could not do the backup since the miniusb port was not working. Once sent, I receive an email with a budget that says that if I want it to be repaired I have to pay around 40 euros (curiously, it is more or less the discount that they gave me with the renewal plan) because although the Papyre is under guarantee, the mini usb port has been "tampered with" and detached from the motherboard. Obviously, to load the ebook you have to connect the cable, and that is to manipulate it effectively. Releasing it from the motherboard, I already see it more difficult, but the same thing they say that I have put my fingernail and I have pulled it. In short, they do not fix it for me, and also now to recover it and send it for an appraisal (to report them, of course) I have to bear the shipping costs. And here is my opinion.
In case you think otherwise, you know, I have nothing to do with any other brand, now in fact the ebook I have is borrowed and I don't even know what brand it is. The only thing I know is that it has been a great disappointment and that for taking advantage of the offer they made I feel scammed, disappointed and tied to a company (bear in mind that I have bought books in the Grammata store and if I cancel my registration I lose them to recover them in future devices) that does not value customer loyalty at all.
I hope that my experience will serve others. Thanks.

Exactly the same thing happened to me as to CLO ZU. The equipment is very good until it stops working and by the time you depend on the after sales service you are lost. My team is the second time in a year and a half of life that it goes to the SAT for the same reasons. The first time they told me that it was a firmware problem and there was no cost to repair it. The second time they tell me that it is a problem with the usb port and that this is not covered by the warranty when having to change the motherboard having the same symptoms as the previous time. It is a pity that a magnificent Spanish product is spoiled by poor after-sales service. I do not recommend this team.

  17.   Hands said

I just received a technical service email from grammata. I sent the papyre 630 because it was blocked and neither turned on nor turned off and they tell me that it is not covered by the warranty, they do not explain what happens to it, they simply budget for a motherboard change. I'm sure the usb was correct. Unfortunately, I agree with the latest comments, the post-sale service is absurd, you must send it to be told what is wrong and they tell you that it is not covered by the guarantee and, if you want to recover it, you have to pay the postage. Unpresentable

  18.   nita said

My opinion on the Papyre 630 and its after sales technical support is not good. The attention of the staff leaves much to be desired, and coincidentally, the failure of my device was not covered by the guarantee, they advised me to change the motherboard and I had to pay 40 euros. And I assure you that the failure was not due to misuse, quite the contrary. A month and a half after its repair it is blocked again and I can not do anything. I have consulted the technical support again and I am waiting for their response. It is supposed to come under the warranty of the repair right? I will report.
In any case, the device is not comfortable to use and I certainly do not recommend its purchase. I'm considering buying a new ereader and it certainly won't be from Grammata.

Hello everyone, today I received an email from grammata indicating that the failure of my papyre 630, which I bought a little over a year ago, is not covered by the warranty, the usb port has been broken and it is necessary to change the plate base. The budget is 40 euros approx.
by the way, at home we also have the papyre 6.1. And it goes great despite the years of use, like 7 or 8. It seems that they no longer make them the same, or we have all become very clumsy ...
