ARCHOS 90: an interesting 9-inch e-Reader

ARCHOS

E-books usually have a characteristic par excellence that is its size de between 6 and 7 inches though there are larger devices on the market and that for those who do not intend to transport it can be very interesting.

The eReader that we present to you today, the ARCHOS 90It is 9-inch in size with powerful features and at a fairly affordable price.

ARCHOS 90 is an interesting device that is aimed at all those who seek not only to have an eReader but also a gadget that allows them to go one step further Thanks to its large 9-inch (23 cm) TFT screen, in book format and its 10 hours of battery life, we can also enjoy our best videos, music or browsing the Internet with our ebooks. .

It is certainly important to keep in mind that we are talking about a screen, not only 9 inches but a screen that will allow us to see everything in color.

All the  Most interesting and important features of the ARCHOS 90 are:

  • Size: 232 x 160 x 10 mm
  • Weight :: 430 grams
  • Screen: incorporates a 9-inch LCD screen that allows a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels
  •  Internal memorya: 4 gigs expandable via microSD cards up to 16 gigs
  • Supported formats: PDF, EPUB (DRM Adobe PDF and EPUB), TXT, FB2, MP3, MPEG-4 AVI, FLV, MPG, RM, RMVB, FLV, MP4, DAT, VOB, MKV, MOV (up to HD 720p)

Once again I have had the opportunity to test the device although this time I cannot reveal where or how because they have asked me to do so but I will tell you that we are without a doubt and taking into account their price of EUR 99.99 of a certainly interesting device.

It has beautiful finishes, the keys arranged in a very comfortable way when reading and a fairly fast and acceptable page turning speed. The only thing I could put a but is on its screen, which perhaps, after a few minutes reading, can tire our eyes too much.

My opinion, very personal, is that This is a good device for all those who are looking for an eReader with dimensions somewhat larger than normal. and just one step away from what a tablet can offer us.

Sorry to totally disagree with the approach you have given the article. As much as the developer company calls

«EReader» to this device, it is still a tablet. Those of us who work in the world of electronic readers or

"Ereaders", we know that the difference between a TFT or LCD screen and an electronic ink screen is abysmal. If you want

burn your eyes, you only have to read an hour at a time on that tablet. Now, if what you want is to read comfortably as

If you were looking at a paper book, the choice is a true e-ink ereader, there is where to choose.

It can also be read on a PC, laptop, mobile, etc., or even on the TV screen. But I think it's not about

that. For people who are not familiar with these types of devices, this article can be confusing. Not the first time

of people who have acquired an iPad or other type of tablets to read, and if what they wanted was to spend a lot of time

reading, in the end they have ended up acquiring an electronic ink ereader.

The difference between the tablet and the ereader is not only in the comfort of reading and the fatigue or not of the eyes, but in

something also very important, and it is the time that the battery lasts for both devices. The battery of a tablet does not reach more

beyond a few hours, while an e-ink ereader may work perfectly for a couple of weeks or a month with

the same battery charge, since there is only power consumption when turning the page or interacting with the menu, and not the

done keeping the screen on. And if we talk about the weight of one and the other, more points in favor of the ereader.

The Archos 90 is not the only case in which dealers or developers try to "strain" it as the ideal ereader

for reading. There are other brands that do the same, and in the end this only leads to the disappointment of the poor dupe who has

Fallen in the networks of misleading advertising.

What we do have to be clear about is what we want the device for. If reading is the top priority, surely a

e-ink ereader. If we want to read occasionally and watch videos, photos, games, etc., then a tablet.

Please, I would like you to take it as constructive criticism. I could not help but intervene in the great confusion of

ideas that the article raises for people who do not know the differences.

    regards

I just saw this article and I can't agree more with Cyclope: a TFT screen can NOT be considered today a true ereader, but only an electronic ink screen, although the article does indicate that it is TFT, I understand it is necessary to indicate the large drawbacks of TFTs to read versus electronic ink.

so more than a reader, this device is a multimedia player (MP4) that can also display ebooks. And by the way a low resolution screen: 800 × 480 for 9 ″ is unspeakable. Remember that most 6 ″ readers have screens of 800 × 600 and some of 1024 × 758. Having 800 × 600 in 9 ″ supposes to have pixels like berets (that is to say)

Articles like this do immense harm to e-ink readers.

This device has a TFT screen and as such is not intended for reading. I am not saying that it is a bad multimedia center, but to read before there I prefer to read on the pc.

And I say that they do a lot of damage because there are personnel who have never seen a reader in their life, have no idea of its characteristics and deceived they try a reader with a TFT screen, and they leave it cornered and never use a reader again.

As they comment here this is a tablet not an ereader ... having said this I must say that there is a lot of exaggeration in that of "tablets are not worth reading because you spoil your view" ... let's see, me and millions of other people, we spend hours and hours with a computer in front of us reading because it is our job and / or our hobby and we have not been blind by it. What is better an ereader? of course, but let's not talk nonsense please.

E-ink ebooks are undoubtedly much better for the reading function. But I have one with a TFT screen (you can say that it is mp5) and I am delighted because I change the background and the letter and it does not tire me at all. Of course, the battery does not last the same.
