VoiceView for Kindle is Amazon's accessibility solution

Kindle Paperwhite

One of the curiosities of the Kindle Oasis, when it went through the FCC certification last month, is that in that report the jack for a headset appeared. A detail that seemed to make no sense at first and that left a sea of doubts when it was officially presented.

Now, with the launch of the Kindle Audio Adapter accessory, the reason for that connection is understood. This accessory bring text to speech with you which has been required by many users to have that option on the Kindle Paperwhite, which is precisely the first device to be offered this new feature.

A new accessory for Kindle is the USB dongle That you can connect to the USB port of the Kindle Paperwhite and thus connect a headset. Once connected, Kindle owners can use Voiceview which features the ability to browse the menus on the Kindle and listen to ebooks.

This new audio adapter is part of a pack to buy together the Kindle Paperwhite and the accessory. Amazon's plans are, apart from launching it first with the Paperwhite, is to take it to other Kindle models. This also means that there is no plan to offer text-to-speech service without accessibility features either. In other words, you cannot connect the audio adapter to just listen to your ebooks.

A perfect feature for those who have vision problems and that they need some audio assistance to be able to navigate through menus and open books. A point where smartphones and tablets have improved the experience when compared to the Kindle.

So this way Amazon offers full support to this type of accessibility for users who have vision problems.

Hi, I can only find this accessory on amazon.com but for shipping costs they charge me $ 30 to send it to Spain. In amazon.es I cannot find it, where can I buy it that they do not charge me so many shipping costs? Thank you!

I have tried the update of the voice view and it works very well. I am fond of audiobooks and combining reading with audio, which I do in all the texts I have available. I also like the Kindle and have always believed that they owed us this functionality. However, it is available only in English. If anyone knows if it is already possible to have the voice view in Spanish, I would appreciate it very much. Otherwise I will have to continue using the mode I use, that is, convert the text to an mp3 file and combine it with the text, and keep waiting for the people at Amazon to make the Spanish version available.
