Barcelona It is undoubtedly one of the great Spanish cities where literature can be seen, enjoyed and perceived in many corners. However, at the moment it was not recognized by the United Nations Organization for Education and Diversification, Science and Culture (UNESCO) as literary city, as if they were other cities among which Dublin, Prague or Edinburgh stand out. Now Barcelona can enjoy being one more literary city after being recognized by UNESCO.
This candidacy that has been promoted by the Institute of Culture of the City Council (ICUB) adjacent to Ramon Llull Institute, Institution of Catalan Literature andBarcelona Library ConsortiumIt has had the expected result although it has been made to wait longer than was believed at first.
With this, Spain already has two literary cities, since Granada had already been considered by UNESCO as a literary city a few months ago. If we take into account that this organization does not want to name more than 3 literary cities by country, we still have room for one more recognition that could fall on Madrid, Seville or Salamanca among others.
With this recognition of the city of Barcelona we will be able to see how the literary activities that already number dozens in the city continue to be promoted. In addition, and with total security, it will help tourism grow a little more and there are still many people who choose their holiday destinations based on the activities or literary events they offer.
