Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports will announce this Wednesday at 13:45 p.m. the winner of the Miguel de Cervantes Prize for Literature in the Spanish Language, which is today one of the most prestigious literary awards in Spanish literature. It is also endowed with 125.000 euros, which is one of the most important monetary prizes.
The 2015 Cervantes Prize went to the Mexican writer Fernando del Paso. The history of this award includes names of illustrious writers such as Juan Goytisolo, Elena Poniatowska, Caballero Bonald, Nicanor Parra, Ana María Matute, José Emilio Pacheco and Juan Marsé.
This year's award, as mandated by the unwritten rule of the Permio Cervantes, should go to a Spanish writer, after last year it went to a Latin American writer. For a long time, without this rule being written, the alternation has been respected, which is not expected to be broken this year.
In the pools of many experts there appear names like those of Antonio Muñoz Molina, Eduardo Mendoza, Félix de Azúa, Luis Landero, Luis Mateo Díez, Emilio Lledó or Fernando Savater as possible winners of the 2016 Cervantes Prize.
