They gut the Kobo Glo HD and find a surprise

Kobo GloHD

A few hours ago we learned from the editor of the website The Digital Reader that the Kobo Glo HD brings more things than we thought. This has been discovered thanks to the fact that by accident the editor dropped it and the eReader was opened showing the interior of this reader. Of course, an opportunity like this was taken advantage of by the editor and published photos of this interior.

In these photos we can check the type of screen that is used or the size of the eReader battery, about 1.500 mAh, something that we intuited since it is the size that all eReader manufacturers are using. And as a great surprise, we have been able to find a slot for microsd cards as main storage memory. That is, the storage space of the Kobo Glo HD can be expanded without having to be tied to the four gigabytes of the sd card.

Unlike other Kobo eReaders such as the Kobo Aura HD or the previous Kobo Glo, this slot is free, that is, it is not soldered to the board so it may be useful to expand the capacity of the eReader or simply to install another operating system or the same software modified to improve the environment.

Kobo Glo HD storage can be changed

  • 6 "e-Ink touchscreen, 1448 x 1072 resolution
  • Storage of 4 GB
  • Built-in front light, fully adjustable ComfortLight
  • 15 supported file formats, including EPUB and EPUB3
  • TypeGenius, 11 different fonts and 48 sizes to choose from

The possibilities are many, you just have to follow the software guides on the Internet and make backup copies. Of course, this breaks all kinds of guarantees, but it is a risk that can be run taking into account the price of the eReader and what we can do with it.

Although many still distrust hacks in eReaders, such things can facilitate and increase the life of the eReaders themselves since although the electronic ink screen is not suitable for video, it is for other functions such as the agenda, reader rss or even some games like chess.

It's funny, but as the days go by, the Kobo Glo HD becomes one of the best eReaders of the moment and that is not yet sold. It seems that the Kindle Voyage has its days numbered or that impression is giving us, don't you think?

Really, what an obsession there is with memory expansion via SD. In an eReader it is something totally unnecessary and fewer and fewer devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.) are betting on it.

But nothing, come and buy a KOBO HD that may come with SD and if not with a little skill we can solder a reader.

I am new to this and I would like to buy an e-reader, I am not sure which one, I choose between three, the Kindle Voyage, the Kobo Aura HD or the Kobo GLO HD, which one do you recommend?

Right now the best thing is to catch the offer of Kobo Aura Wifi + cover for 119eu. And if you want to go for the best, the Kobo H2O.

You are from Spain? I ask because the Kindle Voyage is not sold here. I have the paperwhite and I am delighted.

The Kobo H2O is the best so far, the voyage is not for sale in Spain. If you don't mind waiting a bit, it doesn't take long for the Kobo Glo HD to go on sale, which although it does not have protection against water like H2O, if it has a better screen resolution, what it does not have unlike H2O is the possibility of expanding memory with SD card. Although, as they said before, not so much information is usually put into a reader that extra memory is necessary. You connect to the PC, take it out and put it in ... I'm going to wait for the Glo HD to see if it doesn't take long and the price is reasonable ... otherwise, I'll choose the H2O.

I have purchased a Kobo Glo HD, after 4 Kindle, a Nook and a Sony Reader, and I am very satisfied with the purchase.
It is really a reader that offers many benefits; hands down the best I have ever had.
Thank you for the information shared and the overall work done on this page.
    Greetings.
