Superheroes like DeadPool, Ant Man or those from Guardians of the Galaxy, have become part of that fame that those Batman treasure, Superman and Spiderman. Due to the great popularity of their films and how they have been able to raise millions of dollars in theaters.
This has allowed us to comment that the recent published sales figures show how June was the best month in sales of this industry since December 1997. We can add to this great milestone for this industry, that it made more than 1.000 billion dollars last year and that sales of printed comics generated 900 million dollars.
The only bad thing about these figures is that digital sales alone reached 90 million dollars and were reduced to 10% in 2015, at the same level of 2013. It should be noted that these numbers, in relation to digital, do not include subscriptions to services such as Marvel Unlimited, Comixology Unlimited or Scribd.
As for that spectacular month of June, there are no records of comics purchased directly by consumers; Instead, a note is made of the number of units purchased by stores, in anticipation of demand. So it remains that some of those comics never reach the hands of a reader.
In total figures, they were acquired 8,5 million copies of the top 300 comics, the highest number since December 1997, when stores ordered nearly 9 million comics. This is a 42 percent increase from five years ago to this month, and a 56% increase from 15 years ago through June.
Part of this spectacular increase comes from the publication of the first numbers of two important comics: Civil War II No.1 Marvel y Batman No.1 of DC. In total, 381.737 copies of the first and 280.360 of the second were purchased.
The one that can easy access to comics thanks to the internet and the great popularity of superhero movies, are the two key reasons to understand this spectacular increase in sales.
