The new Freescale i.MX 7 processor will take time to reach eReaders

iMX 7

It's been more than a year since we heard from Freescale about a new processor that would come to eReaders and that would be more efficient and more powerful than current processors. It's been over a year and we still don't hear from him.

This processor is known as Freescale i.MX 7, a dual core processor that in addition to giving more power to the eReader or the device in general, is also more efficient with energy consumption, something that will make many eReaders can extend their autonomy per charge, regardless of how we use it.

Freescale's new processor will hit high-end eReaders first

And after this silence, many media have tried to find out about the Freescale processor. And although they have not managed to solve the mystery, it seems that the processor may appear in a very short time although it will be in a staggered manner. Company delegates have stated that the adaptation of the new processor to eReaders It is easy but to other devices it is not so easy, so it is taking time to launch the new processors. In any case, at the time of its launch, during the first months, it will be the high-end eReaders that have this new processor and later it will be extended to the basic or normal eReaders.

Considering this and the recent releases of the Kindle Oasis and the Kobo Aura One, it may be that until September 2017 We do not know anything new about Freescale, which would be a shame but if what they talk about the new Freescale i.MX 7 is real, the wait will be worth it as we are increasingly managing more ebooks and pdf's, something that needs more memory and more power.

I personally believe that eReaders with this new processor will mark a before and after in the market, but I think they will come out in line with E-ink's new technology, Regal, technology that has not yet come out, but like the Freescale processor, it will not take long to come out What do you think?

I think technology advances slowly in this of ereaders. We have not seen a real improvement in a long time. For me the last big news were the Pearl screen (no matter how much they tell me, I don't notice that Carta improves it the least) and the inclusion of light… and it has rained since then.
Ereaders come out with slightly different and interesting designs (Oasis or Aura One) but without real improvements in terms of technology.

We will have to wait another year, I'm afraid ... another year. Basically better for me, I continue with my Kindle Paperwhite and save money.
