Tagus Lux: touch screen and front light

Tagus lux

The Christmas holidays are coming and everyone we are looking for the ideal gift for our loved ones and, of course, for ourselves. If you still do not know what to "advise" to Santa Claus or the Three Wise Men so that this year they do not leave you more underwear in your shoes, you can pass a link to this article, to see if they catch the "hint".

When I keep asking myself about the advantages (or not) of the front light of the Glo or the Paperwhite in front of my current e-readers without a front light, comes House of the book (a benchmark in the field of reading for many years) and presents its new reader Tagus lux de touch screen and with front light and what is read no reflections. Here are its main features:

  • Una pearl screen 6 ″, tactile and with a resolution of 1024 × 758. We are already talking about one of the HD screen readers of the year.
  • The processor Cortex A8 at 800 Mhz, with a Flash memory 256MB DDR
  • Storage capacity 4 GB expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card.
  • Lithium-ion battery 1600 mAh, allowing approximately 8000 page turns. As with all readers, using the wifi, the light, and all those little things reduces the duration.
  • Connectivity: 802.11 b / g / n wifi, microUSB 2.0, 3,5mm headphone jack, Micro SD card slot.
  • And, something very interesting, is multiformat plates.

The box includes, apart from the Tagus Lux, a USB cable, quick start guide and warranty card. A charger / adapter for the current and some type of cover or protection is missing, although currently, except for the most expensive readers, almost none include it.

On these important dates, we are going to be positive: the absence of sheath It will allow us to take a walk through the many specialized stores in this field and choose some of the precious things that they offer; even do a little DIY and make one ourselves. Any ideas?

Tagus Lux controls

All the measures of the Tagus Lux are very similar to those of most mid-range 6 ″ readers (171x125x10,9 mm), although somewhat distant from the models that claim to be more manageable like the PRS-T2. The same thing happens to us with weight, its 238 gr they don't make it a hulk, but it can be a bit awkward to use with one hand.

Another aspect that does not quite convince me is the amount of memory space dedicated to the operating system in front of the space that it leaves as a storage area; of the 4 GB it has, it allocates 3 GB to the Tagus system and leaves only 1 GB for the user. It is true that books occupy little and we could carry a library of a certain size, apart from being able to expand it with microSD cards, but the proportion of space occupied by the operating system is greater than in other readers.

An important point in favor of the Tagus Lux is that The dictionary of the RAE is incorporated, something that is very useful to be able to consult while you read. The ideal is to complement it with other dictionaries such as Larousse, some Spanish-English / English-Spanish and another in English (or another foreign language) such as Collins.

And one of the points that I like the most about any reader, the Tagus Lux is compatible with pdf, epub (with and without DRM), txt, html, chm, pdb, mobi, fb2, djvu, doc, xls, rtf and with rar and zip, so we can assume it is compatible with cbz and cbr. As to compatibility is almost a luxury, although it is not surprising considering that it is a clone (or almost) of the Onyx Boox i62HD Firely.

We are approaching the end with another point that I love, plays audio files, unlike the two star readers of 2012 (the Sony PRS-T2 and the Kindle Paperwhite). I have already said it on other occasions, but I think the enormous possibilities offered by the TTS (Text To Speech) system and audiobooks offer when learning languages or for people with some type of visual impairment, or the possibility listening to music in the background while reading (I know this could also be done with another device but, for example when I travel, why do I have to carry more than one device and more than one charger?).

Apart from all this, the Tagus Lux allows us shop in total comfort at Casa del Libro and access one of the largest electronic book libraries in Spanish, with an easy, comfortable and perfectly integrated system with these readers (yes, okay, it just needed not to be).

Conclusion: the Tagus Lux is a great mid-range reader, with more than acceptable features at a fairly reasonable price (€ 139 on the Casa del Libro official website).

it seems fine, but can you read the pdfs correctly? That is, not to see them but to be able to read them comfortably (Reflow function), another thing that worries is the post-sale service, there are many people criticizing in forums such as the house of the book did not solve problems with the previous ereader, and finally that the system operating occupy 3Gb leaving only 1 Gb free gives the impression that operations will not be smooth with such a heavy OS, you will have to see a test video.

Indeed, experience tells me that the customer service at Casa del Libro is not always the most appropriate (both for the traditional book and for its readers and ebooks).

In general lines and from my point of view, 6 ″ readers are not the most suitable for reading pdf, unless the files are created specifically for that size. Most of the time pdfs are made for A4 and the result in a small reader is disappointing (being smooth): the size is inappropriate, the page turn is anything but fluid, etc. And, no matter how good software the reader has, it is usually better to use other types of files (which is not always possible).

The 3 GB for the operating system seems like a barbarism, as you say, but in the long run it may surprise us (or not).

I have it for a week and I am very satisfied. The lighting works correctly and in the rest of the features it does not disappoint. Read many formats fluently. It has reflow for pdf documents that support it. For the rest, it can be perfectly adjusted to the margins from the touch screen. A success that La Casa del Libro has opted for the Onyx Boox.

Being a "tune" of the Onyx Boox i62 Firefly a quality is presupposed, because the Onyx have it. But we all know that the urge for customization sometimes leads to disaster.
I am very happy to know that in this case Casa del Libro has maintained the quality of the original product and that, like the Onyx, it falls in love.

Hi, they gave it to me and it is one of the best gifts that they have been able to give me, I am delighted with it and one of the reasons I like the most is that it reads many formats unlike others that reads you less and the Light is useful in my case from time to time I use it, I totally recommend it. All the best.

In January of this year I bought the Tagus lux at the La casa del Libro store in Vitoria. From the first day I could not buy books from the ebook itself, I had to do it through the computer and then synchronize to pass it to the Tagus. In addition, the advertising that ensures 8.000 page steps is totally false, I have never been able to fully load it despite having it connected to the computer all night and after the third load, when I had the ebook at half load, suddenly in the middle of the Reading I got a message to charge it quickly, something I did, however the message does not disappear, the red charge indication light goes away and the yellow light does not appear. I took it to the store so they could give me a solution and they tell me that I have to send it to Madrid at my expense. There are also certain books such as "Astrobiology" that together with the text of the book has articles to support the explanation that could only be seen in full if the font size was set to a minimum, that is, they had to be read with a magnifying glass.

So I recommend that you do not buy it, the after-sales service is terrible and it is only valid for reading novels, not for technical and popular books.

Devices, including mobile phones, that are charged through a USB connection, due to the characteristics of this type of connection (originally they were not connections intended for charging) to a PC, will charge 80% of the total battery, disconnecting upon reaching this level. For a 100% charge it must be charged through the current.

Regarding the after-sales service, they sent it to me from the store, totally free, without any problem. But mine was in another store.

And, for the rest, it looks like a "cucumber" to me, it goes smoothly and for the moment, a year after the purchase and with a very high use, it responds to me like a charm.

Last January 25th I bought a lux tagus. Among the applications that appear that it has is the dictionary and translator. The tagus lux that I acquired has the function, but when looking for a word the definition does not appear. In the dictionary tools menu, when I select dictionary, a text appears in the lower central part of the screen that says: “there is no dictionary”. Is it a manufacturing defect? If not, how can I find the definition of the word? I have read the instructions, I have followed them step by step, but no words define me. There is also no translator. In El Corte Inglés (where I bought it) they don't know how to tell me anything and in a Casa del Libro store (which I have asked) either. Could you help me.
    Thank you

Hi, I'm Martín, the same thing has happened to me, it doesn't give me the definition of the indicated word, I think it won't have the dictionary installed. I would appreciate if you could tell if you have solved it and how.

It is a good buy. As the article says: its memory is not what we all expect, because it only offers a gig of real storage. However, if we want more memory we can always put a card to expand it.

What I like the most: It has a very elegant design, it reads practically all formats and I think it is one of the lightest on the market. In addition, its price is not bad (129 euros) which is the average for ereaders of this range. As for its screen, it has a good resolution and regarding the battery, its duration is good.

In conclusion, it is an ebook that has nothing to envy any of its range (kindle paperwhite, sony prs t3, etc).

I share with Irene B. Her comments about the ereaders for the A4 papers, I bought a Tagus Magno and it really does not compare with the Kindle DX that was known in 2011, even though it is a new product. I do not recommend it because it presents many Fallas and Casa de Libro Espanna must correct so that it has acceptance in the market… .320 euros to water.

I also bought an ebook in El Corte Inglés TAGUS LUX and neither the RAE dictionary nor the translator is available (after trying for 3 days to find out why). Also, the TTS Tagus engine does not work. When I have gone to the English court they tell me that they know it, that it is a factory error of a series of units and that they do not warn because many clients do not use these dictionaries. It seems that the problem is solved with a link that they send you so that you can install it. How can it be possible that they know about it and still sell it? Also, if you ask for a change for another unit, they tell you that all the ones they have are defective… ..Have they made an agreement to "encasquetar" the defective ebooks to the clients of El Corte Inglés? I find it incredible that these things happen because the price at which they sell it is not even cheaper than on the La Casa del Libro page and above all they indicate that it is discounted when it is not, at least compared to other stores. Do they take us for fools?

Problem with tagus lux. I have not used it for a couple of months and when I try to turn it on it starts, but it has been blocked on the home page. You haven't even loaded the last book you read. It does not respond with any button, or when resetting it. Does anyone know what can happen to him? How can it be unlocked?

    Hello everybody:
I'm new to eReaders. I just bought a tagus lux 2016 for a gift at the Casa del Libro and I realized that it only comes with a USB cable and that I have to buy the power adapter separately. From what I read it is also necessary to get 100% loads. Do you know if I can use a phone charger with a similar miniUSB connection?
I have several phones and tablets with these types of chargers (Samsung Galaxy J5, Samsung Galaxy TAB S, Samsung Galaxy TAB S2, Samsung Galaxy ACE 2). The idea would be to use a charger from the Samsung Galaxy ACE 2 that I no longer use to use it with the ereader. Do you know if this is possible?
If you have an official tagus lux 2016 charger, can you point me out the characteristics of the power adapter?
Supported Voltage, Frequency, Amps, and Output
    Thank you
