Sweek is a young startup based in Rotterdam, we talked about not long ago, which has launched a series of mobile apps for both Android and iOS. The company is looking for a viable way to launch self-published titles for the smartphone generation and currently has a library of more than 1.000 published stories and 20.000 classic eBooks.
Sweek's app launched at the Frankfurt Book Fair a few weeks ago and its main focus seems to be series fiction and short jobs. The vast majority of its content has been translated into 12 different languages and its focus is on the European market.
But we have to ask ourselves what makes Sweek different from others. And it is here that Peter Paul van Bekkum, CEO of Sweek, declares that his main objective is the collaboration with publishers and indie authors. For beginning authors, a self-publishing tool is offered and Swekk itself is a way to build a fan base to promote those books, or even discover traditional publishers.
For publishers, a variety of verified accounts for top authors, which offers them a special space to be seen by readers in the app. His idea is that Sweek is a marketing tool to reach the new smartphone generation.
Editors are offered access to all kinds of data, focus on one type of advertising, and allowed to distinguish the next writers who will become the best known. For readers it means that they will be able to find high-quality content on Sweek, either from those who start or those that are already established in the sector.
