Sony ?, update your 13.3-inch eReader or what is the same the DPTS1

eReader

Surely many will sound strange to see in the title of this entry the word eReader and Sony, but the fact is that the Japanese company still manufactures and sells devices of this type in Japan. In addition, its large eReader with a 13,3-inch screen, known under the name DPTS1, is still sold outside its borders and can be purchased for example in the United States.

Precisely this device, which attracted our attention to its day, and which we still like so many, has been updated with a new version of software that incorporates new and interesting improvements for all users who have decided to spend a large amount of euros on this eReader.

If you are one of the lucky ones to have one of these electronic books, we must first tell you that the update is only available for devices that are sold in Japan, and therefore if you have bought them in the United States or another country at the moment you will not be able to access the new options and functions.

However, you should not be angry with Sony and that is that one of the main improvements that are necessary in this device, which is the possibility of having support for more formats, has not come with this new software so it will only be possible to work with documents in PDF or EPUB format.

eReader

Here we show you the New functions and options that we can find in this 13,3-inch Sony eReader:

  • Adding an eraser
  • Possibility of handwriting on enlarged images
  • New note templates have been added
  • From now on it will be possible to add or delete pages from a PDF document
  • The undo / redo function has been implemented
  • Ability to add or delete folders

There are not too many new functions and options incorporated, but if all of them are very necessary and surely they are very well received by all users.

To end this article, I cannot miss the opportunity to criticize Sony and all its executives who have decided not to sell this device worldwide, and that is because with that large screen it would be the ideal complement for many, including myself .

It's one thing to stop selling eReaders because it wasn't profitable for you, but this eReader is special and I think it should be marketed globally as it would be very successful without a doubt.

Would you buy an eReader like this one from Sony with a 13,3-inch screen?.

Answering your final question: yes ... if it cost € 200 or € 250, as much. At the price of $ 1000 I would not buy it as a joke.
It is very good on a physical level. Putting 13,3 ″ in such a thin and light device seems like a trick to me but we cannot ignore that it is only a notebook. Digital notebook yes ... but notebook after all. Would someone pay € 1000 (or € 740 let's go) for a notebook, no matter how technological and chachi it is? Not.
Other shortcomings it has is that it only reads .PDF. Nothing more. And last but not least, it only accepts 10 handwritten pages per document, although Sony promised to correct the latter.

If this device accepted more formats, had a color screen would be perfect and a "normal" price would be perfect. We would be talking about a substitute for textbooks but unfortunately the color ink still seems far away and the price that Sony has put on this device makes it a very expensive toy only for gourmets.
