Pottermore an example of the near future of writers?

JK Rowling

In these days when Harry Potter has returned, one website has stood out above the rest: Pottermore. This website is an official Harry Potter site and owned by JK Rowling. It is also the website that has all the rights to Harry Potter, but most importantly, is the website that sells Harry Potter books, ebooks and other products.

In these days many of us have gone to that website to get the latest Harry Potter book or get new materials from the Saga. Although those materials seem that they are not as new as they want us to believe.

But with this, we do not want to show off Pottermore but rather center it as a true editorial example. Many already consider as official the fact that Pottermore is the publisher or publishing business that works with the works of Harry Potter. And it is what I wanted to highlight.

Pottermore could be the future of many writers and the present of many of them

Currently social networks and the creation of web pages or the creation of ebooks are at the hand of anyone without losing a lot of money. This makes them authentic platforms for publishing and promoting ebooks that can be created by publishers or by the authors themselves.

Pottermore is not a simple website controlled by JK Rowling since the success of Harry Potter has gone beyond a simple sale of a book, but it does not mean that an author cannot do something similar. So it seems that the role of the publisher has a future different from the current one, where the activities may not be the same as now or at least not all.

In many markets and many writers are using these types of tools to skip the editor and his commission, although is it really profitable for the writer? In the long run, the publisher's commission is not as large as what is paid on self-publishing platforms, a mistake that many writers make, but it is also true that some prefer to have the freedom that self-publishing grants rather than the slavery of the publisher. Two sides of the same coin that is currently generating quite a controversy. But what about you what do you prefer? Self-publishing or editorial? what do you think?
