Onyx Boox to launch a 13-inch eReader

When many of us already believed that the creation of eReaders with large screens was finished, Onyx Boox goes and surprises us with this pleasant news. Apparently Onyx Boox to launch a 13-inch eReader in October that will compete in the field of large screens and that will follow the line of its smaller brothers, the 6-inch eReaders.

This 13-inch eReader will not be like its competitor the Sony DPT-S1, the 13-inch eReader that only reads pdf files, but it will be an eReader with an android operating system, specifically version 4.4, which will make it possible for us to use and read any read and audio file.

The Onyx 13-inch eReader will reportedly use mobius technology and give this eReader a 1.200 x 1.600 pixel resolution with 150 dpi. The price of this eReader will not be affordable for the end user, it is believed that it will cost 700 dollars, but still it is still cheaper than the Sony eReader, more powerful and more versatile for companies since it will support any format and app while Sony's does not. Even so, I would not rule out that its price was even lower.

This 13-inch eReader will have Android Kit Kat as its heart

Apparently Onyx Boox would have been working on this model for more than 6 months, dates where this technology was very expensive, but now the prices are not the same and the price may continue to drop or have dropped more by October.

Still, if the 13-inch eReader really lives up to the idea of many readers, the price may not be an obstacle to its being sold. If we look at current prices, the Kindle Voyage costs $ 200, the Kobo H2O about $ 179 and the latter is out of stock. I know that having two eReaders is not the same as having a 13-inch eReader, but for those who want a big screen, this eReader will be a breakthrough.

Still, we must remember that we will not see this eReader until October and that there will be variations until the final product, but will it be worth the wait?

I still think that large monochrome ereaders make no sense. Do you really need 13 ″ to read a novel? Obviously not. To read a pdf or a comic or a science book yes… but in black and white no thanks. And less than € 700

Thanks Onyx. There are many of us who read comics in wonderful black and white and we are waiting for such a device to be able to read our electronic comics properly ...

Indeed: books with illustrations, technical books, comparing between two documents ... and let's not forget to be able to read scores, for the first time in history, without having to zoom (essential) on a non-harmful screen! Actually, a reader with a 13-inch screen, even if it is in black and white, is a VERY USEFUL product.

Thanks for the information Joaquín, like many of this news I hope it will crystallize and be accessible. I live in Colombia, and after many years wanting to buy an e-ink ereader, saving, I was able to give myself, and through an acquaintance who traveled abroad, a boyue t62, icarus illumina hd e363, papyre 640, ereader pro, or whatever they call it According to the seller, it is not perfect, nor full fluent, but being android, it allows applications for different formats,
-I like to read, I even installed the isilo of my old palm tx, and I was able to rescue many .pdb documents, because natively although it announces them it does not read them, I had to look for this application, try it, and buy it, and buy it, It works well,
-the problem, the screen of only 6 ″ to read pdf feels very small, because it jumps to halves, I feel that a bigger screen is needed to read pdf, etc,
-My boys have liked to read novels and stories, that when they come in epub, fb2, mobi formats, (which I download from my beloved web papyrefb2, extinct today),
-And then I'm kind of waiting to see if I buy them a bigger one so they can read and study their books at home, without damaging their eyes,
-And although I was struck by the special light to read at night, this eyestrain, it becomes like a normal tablet, even with the minimum it increases the brightness a lot, the light something annoying to read in the dark, supposedly it was his plus, and I prefer to read in natural or artificial light,
-Thank you, for this page, I wanted to share my experience, and for keeping us updated,
-I would also like eink in color, on the one hand find news that there are, other articles talk about limitations, and as I said on another page, you inform us although many times it remains in illusions,
-Greetings to users of this website,
