Nolim, Carrefour and Bookeen's alternative to the Kindle

nolim

A few months ago you announced Carrefour's intention to stand up to Amazon, the giant of sales and eReaders. Carrefour would have teamed up with the French company Bookeen to distribute an eReader and create an ebook store so that Carrefour and its customers could enjoy the eReader. Nolim is what the final eReader is called and it will have two versions, a normal one and the Nolim +, an almost identical version but with an illuminated screen, for reading at night.

A few days ago, a similar model was announced in the French media but with a higher resolution electronic ink screen, this eReader also called Nolim + HD is an evolution of the Nolim + but shares many characteristics with its predecessors, including appearance.

The final features differ quite a bit from those previously announced, not to mention that the landscape has changed quite a bit. The Nolim is an ereader with a 6 ″ electronic ink screen, with a resolution of 768 x 1024. It uses Pearl and Pearl HD technology and in all models the screen is touch. The processor it uses is a 1 Ghz Allwinner and has 256 mb of ddr3-type ram.

Although autonomy is doubtful, the Nolim is one of the best economic alternatives

Regarding storage, the Nolim has 4 GB of storage that can be expanded through a microsd slot that the eReader has. It has integrated Wi-Fi and a 1.900 mAh battery. This last data is quite confusing since the supposed model in which the Nolim is inspired has 1.600 mAh and in the description in addition to indicating the 1.900 mAh, it states that lasts two weeks, something quite doubtful, since it would be more, in both cases.

The price of the Nolim is 69 euros, the Nolim + would cost 99 euros and the Nolim + HD will cost 99 euros but it is only available in France at the moment. Regarding the software, we know very little and everything indicates that it is something similar to that provided by Amazon with its Kindle, that is, a basic reading application, browser, file manager, integration with the Carrefour store, etc…. It lacks Cloud, yes, but even so, Nolim is presented as a fairly good and inexpensive alternative. It is also already in Spain and if we take into account the 79 euros of the basic Kindle and the 80 euros that the Tagus Tagus costs, the Nolim is one of the cheapest alternatives for this Christmas, at least so far, we will now see what the competitors do.
