KoboNotes, a tool or a malware?

kobonotes

In recent months Amazon has released several updates that allowed saving and synchronize the notes and highlights of our ebooks into separate files that we can export to other programs such as Microsoft Word or even share it with other users who have that ebook.

Other companies do not have this possibility like Kobo but a user has recently launched a website called KoboNotes, a website that works as a web application and offers the same as Amazon updates: export notes and highlights from our ebooks to Kobo.

KoboNotes is a free tool available to everyone and whose operation is simple and easy but at the same time dangerous. In order for KoboNotes to deliver the notes of our ebooks to us, we must send the koboreader.sqlite file of our device. The web application, after several minutes, will send us the necessary files to be able to work with our notes.

Kobonotes could put our personal data at risk

But we are also sending all the data from our ebooks to someone unknown. Data that not only includes the title of the ebooks but also includes the DRM data, the watermarks with our personal data, the eReader information, etc ... Bones of data that in the wrong hands could pose a danger to us.

The truth is that many users have tried KoboNotes and it works well, there is no complaint about it or something similar, but it is also true that if we look at your website, we only have one email address. We have no information about who is behind it so the possibility of scam is there and it is high. The normal thing would be to know details of the creator or the company that manages it, we do not know in which country the server or the creator is located.

Come on, data that helps us in case of having problems with the application. Personally I consider it as something dangerous and in case I want to export my notes, I will continue to use Caliber and the notebook to solve this problem And what do you choose?

Hello, my name is Francisco and I am the creator of KoboNotes.com. I feel like some people may find this website to be malware. I have only tried, with KoboNotes, to create a useful tool for all Kobo users. Therefore, and to clear the doubts about the web page, I have created a page of questions and answers (Q & A). Hope it's enlightening.

Any additional questions you can contact me via email, Facebook or LinkedIn (links are on the KoboNotes page). I can send an answer as soon as possible. I am Portuguese, and this translation is being done by the Google translator. I hope this translation is good 🙂

Thanks for the article Joaquim 😉
