Kobo Plus, a new flat rate for ebooks on the market

KoboPlus

For years we have witnessed a real invasion by companies and startups that offered flat rates of ebooks for a very low price. All following the business model of Spotify. After several years since that, the number of flat rates for ebooks has decreased but similar and new services are still being created. The last of these services is called KoboPlus.

Kobo Plus is an ebook rental streaming service or also considered as an Ebook Flat Rate from the company Kobo Rakuten. This service is offered for a little less than 10 euros per month and at the moment it is only available in Belgium and Holland.

Kobo Plus still has a small but quality catalog

The new Kobo Rakuten service is intended for ebook lovers, users who prefer quality over quantity. That is why the Kobo Plus catalog is still very small. Kobo Plus only has 40.000 of which only 16.000 ebooks are in Dutch. Kobo Rakuten has reached an agreement with the authors and publishers of the countries to gradually incorporate the ebooks of the markets of these countries but also at the time of the benefits.

Unlike Kindle Unlimited, Kobo Plus will distribute profits equally with authors and publishers, something that does not happen in the Amazon service. Kobo eReaders will receive an update that will allow us to use this service directly without having to manage it through the web browser.

Like the rest of the services, Kobo Plus offers a free 30-day trial mode and the authors of the Writing Life service will be able to have their ebooks if they wish. At the moment we do not know when it will reach the rest of the countries, but if it is already in European countries, it will surely not take long to reach Spain. However Will Kobo Plus be a flat rate higher than Kindle Unlimited? What do you think?

What I'm wondering is whether Amazon and Kobo will one day offer their subsidized ereaders for subscription service. Let me explain: will we have the opportunity to buy a Kindle for € 10 (or whatever) with the Unlimited option included and with a mandatory stay X time in the purest telephone style?

I think it would be interesting and I don't know where I thought I read that Amazon was thinking of doing it in the USA ... or maybe I dream it, I don't
