Kobo CEO Michael Tamblyn has been with the company almost from the beginning. He recently had a talk at Tech Toronto in which gave some of the keys for those companies that are put into the manufacture of eReaders. One of them is that it is necessary that the sights are towards the global commercialization of its products so that they can grow properly.

He himself declares:

We went global because we had toIt would have been much easier to focus on one or two markets, but even when we were writing the first business plans in 2009, we could see that three to five companies were going to dominate eBooks globally and we wanted to be one of them.

We expand into new countries in the simplest and most light way possible. We did agreements with local businesses and we introduce ourselves to all your customers to sell devices in their stores.

He added that having a strong team working in several countries can help startus understand how the business works in different markets. The most important thing for us is that we have a large number of people working remotely in many countries and they point out all the possible weaknesses that they have, when it comes to hiring and performance management.
