We have tested the Kindle Paperwhite and this is our review and opinion

During the last days we have had the opportunity to test the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, probably one of the best eReaders that we can find today on the market and waiting for the Kindle Voyage to hit the market. How could it be otherwise, we have subjected this device to a complete analysis that we will show you below.

We will also give you our opinion after using this Kindle Paperwhite for a few days as a reading device and we will break down the points that we think it has in favor, and those that it has against, although we have already warned you that we have not found too many points against it. .

Let's start with its design and exterior

Made of plastic that may look like something else, it has a very elegant black finish and it is practically impossible for someone not to like it. It is quite small in size and is very suitable to store almost anywhere and even to carry in the back pocket of a pair of pants or the inside bag of a jacket.

It has a 6-inch screen with integrated light and that will allow us to read with great comfort even in situations of complete darkness.

Exploring its interior

As usual Amazon does not provide too much data about the inside of its devices so we do not know exactly the processor that mounts this eReader, although we can say about it that is 25% faster than previous e-books. Although it may seem like an unimportant feature, it is noticeable, especially when turning the pages of any book.

Its internal memory is 2 0 4 GB depending on the stock that Amazon has of the device in the country you reside. Not too long ago it launched the Kindle Paperwhite with a 4GB storage, but this is not sold according to the company directed by Jeff Bezos unless the eReader with 2G storage has run out. Therefore it is possible that even though you want to have a Paperwhite with 4 GB of storage you cannot opt for it.

Amazon

Positive points

  • Very elegant exterior design
  • Great screen clarity that allows us to read without our eyes marrying even if we spend long periods of time reading
  • Integrated light that can be adjusted to suit each individual and that allows us to read even in situations of complete darkness. Unlike the light of other eReaders, this does not end up tiring the eyes or being annoying
  • The device offers us enormous speed in almost everything we have to do and, for example, turning the pages is something easy, simple and that does not despair us as it happens in other devices of this type.
  • Its price which we will talk about later
  • Possibilities that Amazon offers us to perform page steps or to consult certain terms in the dictionary of the RAE or in Wikipedia

Bad points

Certainly it is very difficult to find really negative points about this Kindle Paperwhite, so what you will find here are small flaws or defects that do not mean that the device can be considered as lower quality, but we were very sorry to leave this list blank and that is why we could say that we have looked for some A defect that is hardly a negative point.

  • The weight of the device may be a bit excessive
  • Like all Kindle, it does not support the ePub format, one of the most popular in the world of digital reading.
  • All Amazon devices are focused on acquiring multimedia content, and this is no less so and perhaps it may upset someone to have to see, for example, the books that Amazon recommends on the eReader's home screen

Price and Availability

The Kindle Paperwhite is available for purchase on Amazon, with a price that has been lowered in recent times from 129 euros. If you want to buy it, you can do it from the link that you will find below:

Reviewing, in my experience

After testing this Kindle Paperwhite for 15 days and taking into account that I have been able to test many eReaders since I am lucky enough to work on this website, I can say that this is one of the best devices on the market and also with a frankly seductive price .

The fast loading of eBooks and the turning of the page, the sharpness of the screen, the integrated light and above all its price They are for me the strengths of this device and for which I would not last a single second to buy it.

Leñe, you agreed a little late to do this review, right? It has been on the market for more than a year. By the way, I've had it since it came out in Spain and I can say a few things:

1- They say that it is 25% faster than the "previous generation" ... I suppose they refer to the Touch that I also had by the way and I can say that I do not think that the Paperwhite is much faster than the Touch. I couldn't compare them on the spot because I got rid of the Touch before I received the Paperwhite but hey, the KT was super fast and, in fact, turning pages often (as if we were flipping through the book) I still think it was faster than the KP ... that It is not that it is slow either.

2- One of the positive points seems to me the «Paperflip» function to browse the book without losing the page and the «Vocabulary builder» to review the words you have searched for.

3- Mine has no advertising in standby mode. If I agree with the rest of the "negative points". I would add, although subjectively, that I would love for there to be an upper line that informs me of the title of the book that I am reading and the time as it happened in my old Papyre and that it does not happen in any kindle (to see that option you have to press on the screen). I would also like it to have a sd card reader and the option to organize books by folders (on the pc and drag them to the reader as if it were a hard drive) but Amazon has its philosophy and I am afraid it will not change.

Thanks for the review. I'll watch the video at home 😉

      Very good mikij1.

We do the reviews when they give us the devices for it or if we can face it and do them in a large area ...

Ah, another thing. They say that Carta technology is much superior to Pearl ... well, I wish I could compare one next to the other but the truth is that I do not find that the screen of my KP is sharper (at least not sensitively) or has better contrast (with the light to the minimum I say) than that of my old KT.
I clarify that I am delighted with my KP.

    1.    Villamandos said

      It shows, it shows.

If I find an eReader or device with Pearl we record a video to show you.

      A greeting!

25% think it refers to KP1, I suppose the review will be of KP2.

A little late to do it, better late than never. I'm waiting to see a comparison between the KP2, the KV and the H2O to decide which one to buy.

      Very good Brenin!

You are late because we were unable to access the device. From now on I think we will be very fast analyzing Amazon devices 🙂

      A greeting!

I forgot, soon we will have comparisons with the Paperwhite and other devices, the Kindle Voyage will still take time because there is no arrival date in Spain but we will try to make VS interesting.

And when they commercialized an eReader in din-A4 size, that allows us to read our notes on the device and allows us to forget about our printer and paper prints?

    1.    Villamandos said

      Very good UnLector!

That is one of the great requests of users, but it seems that companies do not just see it, or viable or profitable ...

      A greeting!

It already exists although not in the European market. The Sony DPT-S1… for the "modest" price of $ 1200.

      1.    Villamandos said

And seeing that Sony has left this market I am not very clear that it is a very good option ehhh

In the end, it will be necessary to see the differences between Paperwhite and Voyage to evaluate if it is worth taking the leap to the "top of the range" in ereaders, there will come a time when the novelties will have to come through software, because in hardware it will not make sense to continue improving .

He's a great reader, but he has big drawbacks. The main advantages of a digital reader are: being able to configure the reading, margins, fonts, sizes to your liking. And in Amazon they are assholes and they have not put any of this from the kindle keyboard. Well, they did put in several more fonts, and then there was the possibility of adding your own fonts and after a revision of the firmware of the pw1 they removed it.
To be able to leave the reader more or less to your liking you have to jailbreke it. Putting the margin hack to avoid having a 5 »reader since you lose the sixth.
As the pw has a higher resolution, the fonts they have have not been prepared and they look like the ass, you have to put the hack of the fonts and put a fattened font to be able to see it properly.

Otherwise the hardware is good. But its reading software is very little configurable, and therefore a potato.
