2017 ″ Kindle Oasis 7 Review

Review of the Amazon Kindle Oasis, features and prices

I've been a few months testing the Kindle Oasis, Amazon's top-of-the-range ereader (Buy it here). I have also been testing and comparing its two versions, the old 6 ″ and the new 2017 7 ″ and waterproof.

That extra inch that distinguishes it from the classic 6 ″ is much appreciated. It is a bigger screen but without being anything excessive. Possibly from here we can say that an ereader is great.

The aluminum finish gives it a robustness and a premium appearance, which distinguishes it from other devices. The fluidity in the operation and page turns is what Amazon has always used to us with its Kindle. But I tell you about everything in the analysis 🙂

Packaging

Careful design but without being exceptional. The truth is, for the minimum € 250 that the device is worth, I think the packaging should be more top. It is correct, it comes well protected, with a rigid box that can be reused, but it is not pretty. It would be a detail that the box was designed and we could use it to store our device normally.

Impressions and appearance

new 7 inch amazon ereader

It is a top-of-the-range ereader, its symmetrical design in addition to making it beautiful, but

The official case no longer has a battery like the old Kindle Oasis. The truth is that although these devices last weeks I think it was a great complement that differentiated them and that they had to have continued.

Lighting and menus

The lighting is uniform and works well. The only place where I have had problems has been by activating automatic brightness detection, because depending on the situation in which I was just tilting the book a little, it increased or decreased the brightness and it has been annoying. Too much change, as if the sensor is too sensitive. So much so that in the end I disabled it and used manual mode. Or I activated the automatic mode to see with what intensity it recommended me to have the light and then I deactivated it so that there were no fluctuations.

We all know how Amazon Kindle works, how is its environment, its appearance, its Look & feel, In this case I would like to highlight a functionality that I had not tried yet. Its about Word wise. Very useful for those who begin to read English. It gives clues to words or expressions that it considers difficult and is a great help.

Of course, the tests that I have done reading with light and with the Word Wise activated have lowered the battery in an exaggerated way. I have never seen such a consumption in a device. If we only spend the lighting, the consumptions are normal.

Kindle Oasis 2017 vs Oasis «old»

oasis 2017 vs old oasis

Here you can see the two together and compare the difference in size. Anyway, the old ereader is no longer for sale.

Assessment

It is possibly the best device on the market today. An expensive ereader without a doubt. But if you are demanding and you can afford it, it will leave you amazed. That extra inch gives you life when reading without becoming excessive and I love the asymmetric design and I find it very ergonomic. It is the easiest ereader to hold that I have ever tried.

The main difference I see between the Oasis and the Paperwhite, aside from the clear size, is the layout

I got this Kindle in December and it seemed amazing. I ended up giving it back after 30 days because I wasn't getting any juice out of it. In fact, I have been reading very little for a season, unfortunately. Lack of time and stuff. My conclusions:

    - Fantastic lighting. I did not notice the problems that you mention with the brightness sensor the truth. One thing, in this you can completely turn off the light. I say this because in the KP2 (which is the one I have and keep) there is always some minimal light.

    - Screen: impressive. The extra inch shows a lot. I was able to compare the KP next to it in the same book and in the same place and it seems incredible that an inch makes so much difference. Much more text fits in this one without a doubt. Amazon talks about 30% more. I believe it.

    - Design: spectacular. It's amazing how fine it is in the fine part. A negative point, it is somewhat heavy to read lying down with one hand. You have to get the hang of it to hold it. The fact that the order of the page turn buttons can be reversed helps in this case.

The most negative thing was in my opinion the battery. It sucks a lot. With the Paperwhite I can read several books without problem. Not one with the Oasis. It didn't last a week. With light yes, and with Wifi ... but it is the same in the KP and there is no color in the matter of the battery.

It hurt me to give it back the truth. It was difficult for me to return at 6 ″ and it is that 7 ″ is a joy but as I say I did not take advantage of it. Maybe later I will ask again.

By the way, Prime Day is 7 days away and I have the impression that we will have a surprise in Spain. If you look at the Amazon.com page in the announcement of the Prime Day 7 days, an Amazon Echo appears on the basket. I think they will put it on sale that day in our country. We'll see.

    Hello,

it is true that the battery is more just, but I have not noticed anything very exaggerated except with light in automatic + Word Wise that you could almost see how it discharged. It's a shame they removed the battery case.

Let's see if the first day of Monday brings us any surprise or discount 😉

Nacho, I'm thinking that it would be a hoot if you raffle that Kindle among the usual commentators on this blog 😉
    😀

Well, these are assignments and they are returned. But if they give us one, we see it 🙂

Hello, I am Charly nuñez from Argentina, I share your comments, my son traveled to the US and gave me this new Oasis model, I previously used the EXCELLENT kindle paperwhite ereader for several years.
With the oasis I have a more serious problem and I don't solve it despite reconfiguring and resetting it.

Enigma: When I am reading a book and I go to the beginning -HOME- and I want to resume, I lose the page where I left the reading,. It only keeps it if I close the ebook and reopen it in that same book, that is, it is like leaving it on standby. If you read two books at the same time you lose the reference page of both
Search in different pages without finding this problem. If someone had this problem and found the solution, I appreciate your help

      Hi carlos.

If resetting to the factory does not solve it, have you tried contacting Amazon technical support to see what they tell you? They will repair it or change the device if it is a defect.

      All the best
