International DRM-free Day, buy a DRM-free ebook to celebrate

Today is the International Day without DRM, a day that should be characterized by using cultural products that do not have DRM but which is currently impossible, so many of us dedicate ourselves to celebrating it in the best possible way: buying and spreading culture without DRM.

It is a difficult task since currently DRM is found in almost all digital formats, in such a way that if we want to watch a movie, listen to music or read a good ebook, we have to go through DRM. But thanks to the organizers of this Day we have alternatives not to use DRM.

Regarding the ebook, we have two alternatives to DRM. The first one is to use a digital watermark, this system does not need a sophisticated eReader or even to be connected to the Internet, it only marks the ebook with the users who are using it in such a way that in the event of an infringement, the ebook will give the "tip". The second of the ways, with which we all stay, is to buy ebooks without DRM, so that we do not have to worry about it. This last option is more and more requested and used more and more, but it still represents a very small portion of the entire cake of the digital cultural world.

What can we do on International DRM Free Day?

I do not know if you remember that a few months ago a boycott campaign against Amazon began, where not only the evils of Amazon were reported but also alternatives to this great giant were given. Imitating this, I think the best way to celebrate International DRM-Free Day is by inviting and purchasing DRM-free ebooks.

Okay, but where can I buy DRM-free ebooks?

As for libraries that only sell ebooks without DRM, there are only two:

  • Lektu. This young online bookstore is characterized by this very thing, by selling ebooks without DRM. A good opportunity to visit it if you do not know it and also have the "Game of Thrones" ebooks.
  • fatalibelli. It is also a young bookstore whose principle is not to sell ebooks with DRM. Compared to the previous bookstore, they do not have such an extensive catalog, but they do have very interesting works. This bookstore is worth looking at.
  • Gate. This bookstore is more of an editorial section than a bookstore itself, but we can still find very good DRM-free ebooks.
  • Macmillan. It is one of publishers most important worldwide. In Spain it is known above all for its language books. It recently announced that it would launch DRM-free ebooks alongside Tor, its subsidiary.
  • Tagus editions. This young publisher, closely associated with the Casa del Libro, recently announced that it would sell DRM-free ebooks, not only through its bookstore but also through the Casa del Libro.
  • Editions B. The popular publisher of Ibañez's work also recently released a statement about its adherence to DRM-free ebooks.
  • Booksinbook. It is an online bookstore in which several young publishers have come together to sell their titles online. One of the characteristics of this library is that they do not have DRM, although their older titles seem to be. Yet it is perhaps the first consortium of publishers to join the sale of DRM-free ebooks.

Conclusion

These are some examples where we can buy DRM-free ebooks to celebrate this day, but they are not the only ones. There are many and there is also the possibility of editing ebooks without DRM through self-publishing programs, so the offer is large and varied. Even so, I reaffirm myself and believe that the best option to celebrate the International DRM-free Day is buying a DRM-free ebook, although more suggestions are accepted, Does anyone provide any more suggestions?

Q means DRM, they should clarify the term at least in parentheses, and doing it the first time that initials are mentioned in a text is the usual thing.
    Thank you

Hello Rosa, I have not put what DRM means because it is already very clear or it should be as it happens to the abbreviation of the Euro or the Dollar. Drm is an abbreviation for Digital Rigths Management or Digital Rights Management. Still sorry, sometimes we take things for granted that are not. Also thanks for reading and commenting. All the best!!!

Hello Roberto, apparently one for the other, because I was completely unaware that BiblioEteca sold ebooks, I look at it and updated it with whatever I think. A greeting and thanks for comment!!!
