Earl, a tablet with an eReader screen

"My name is earl”, This is how a curious device is presented that pretends to be a tablet but with an electronic ink screen and features of a drop-resistant eReader.

Earl is presented with a 6 ”screen electronic ink, manufactured by Ld Display as well as a solar panel for recharging the battery.

Although this device is not presented for daily consumption, this tablet has some very interesting characteristics that few devices consider and that can be interesting.

The price of Earlis 250 dollars, It really is not very affordable for the pockets considering that there are similar tablets for less money and even eReaders that could compete with this tablet and have more affordable prices. The operating system of the device is Android 4.1 and it seems that there is no talk of any possible update, so for now we will have it as the only system.

Opinion

I know that Earl is not eReader to use nor an affordable or stylish tablet, but it introduces two concepts that both eReaders and tablets are forgetting and even some companies see as a problem they cannot solve. These two concepts I am referring to are autonomy and resistance. As for the latter, it is a concept forgotten by large manufacturers, as an example we have the flexible screen prototype that is taking a lot to develop and much more to implement in some devices.

Then there is the concept of autonomy, a concept that worries the user above all and that in this tablet is solved by incorporating a solar panel. It may seem like a very rough solution and it is enough but considering that it is intended to be used in harsh environments, such a panel can provide enormous autonomy based on free recharges that the sun gives us. Will bea interesting the incorporation of such a panel in an eReader type kindle or nook, at least in Spain where the sun is the reigning element. ¿I imagined youáis reading on the beach? It would be a very tan economic.

Earl It is still in the pre-booking phase that we can do on your website in case someone is interested in this type of device. I hope it will have a great impact and we will see in the very near future eReaders with solar screens and with better energy efficiency. Do not you think?
