A paid library and as a private business, why don't they exist yet?

Bookclub

A sleepless night without sleeping for a single minute gives you to think a lot and think about hundreds of different projects. At about 5 o'clock in the morning and while I was browsing on the network of several web pages about books, I have stopped to think Because, just as there are video stores, there is also no private, paid library where you can rent books for a certain amount of money..

It is true that unless very interesting books were offered it would have very little future since public libraries offer the same service and also in a free way and some digital platforms allow you to subscribe on a monthly basis for an amount that does not exceed 10 euros and you They allow you to read as many books as you want.

But I find it strange with the amount of absurd businesses that have been opened in recent times that no one has noticed a "Bookclub" or in a private library, so as not to give this business strange names.

Perhaps, due to lack of sleep, I have "drawn" the idea; a large place, full of shelves and very much in the style of now with tables to drink coffee or whatever comes to mind. Books everywhere ready for the loan, which will be of two types, the cheap one with which you can sit and read the book at the tables of the enclosure and the slightly more expensive that depending on what you want to pay allows you to take the book to your house.

The criticisms and reproaches I would appreciate if you would place them freely in the comments of this post, but if we have seen hundreds of electronic cigarette stores open, of potas that promised to cook alone or of useless utensils for the kitchen, Why can't there be a "bookclub" or private library?.

As I said before, I hope your opinion even if it is to laugh at me or reproach me for my ideas, although I am almost sure that some of those who read this article will like the idea and how I will spin it in their head, but unfortunately it will be difficult to carry it out since there are bad times to invent and undertake.

Very good article and good idea. As a librarian and documentarian for years I am convinced that people do not understand that information is paid. I see your idea well for i special training.

I believe that it does not exist basically because it requires a lot of space.
If it were a bookclub specialized in a specific subject, it would be more likely to gather members. Although it would reach less public. For example. The horror club book. And still, the amount of material is quite important.
It would have to offer something that they could not find in the comfort of their homes. Difficult thing.

About two years ago, an acquaintance told me in passing. Set up a library where you can lend books for a small fee. I think it could be done. The downside is that it would cost a lot of money to mount it. Although it is true that there would be space problems, precisely for that reason you would guarantee a high quality documentary collection, since the purge and purchase must pass through very high quality and topicality filters and the collection would be renewed very frequently. The good thing about this type of business is that you would reach your customers in a much more direct and personal way than in a public library where librarians do not personally know the vast majority of their users.
If ever a business like this was set up, I would sign up without a second thought.
I sincerely believe that it is a great idea, if you can also offer other extra services that you do not have in your home or in a public library together; Namely, a comfortable sofa, armchair or divan where you can read (you can have that at home) and the silence that a library does guarantee you, but not always your house and surroundings.
I'd start a business like that if I could.

I work in a private university library, and there are students from other private universities who come here because theirs are to cry and I am devising an association or club of friends of the library, in which external users donate a certain amount of books (obviously titles that we request) and can access the library for a whole year…. The ides does not sound so crazy, does it? it would be a mutual benefit

It seems like a very good idea, in fact it has also occurred to me and that is why your publication came out when I looked for information on Google. The problem is that books themselves are not business, especially in this country. With so much public library, it would be difficult to find people willing to pay rent for a book. It is also true that public ones leave much to be desired and have very few volumes. I guess you have to go further and offer books that are difficult to find or very specific so that people are encouraged

I find it as a great idea. It took me longer to realize, but I have not seen that during this time that something like this has appeared and improvements can always be proposed. I invite anyone who wants to start a business with this idea to contact me: igcueca@gmail.com to get to know each other and see if we could complement each other professionally.

    Hello,

The idea is good, you just have to go to google to do some research on library business plans and how you can innovate with all the available technology. (download between 4 to 8 books on the subject, loyal all, the more sources on a single topic the better, you will get more ideas to do it well and increase the vision of your dream), if you have time also read about business advertising by social networks.

Some key aspects (locate your customers in need, analyze how your service or business can improve or better satisfy their need at an affordable price)

In short, I think that today there are many opportunities available for the savvy, you just have to go for your dreams.

And I think we have many means for it: the internet. With one click you have access to many books and autobiographies of the successful ones that have existed to this day, from the beginnings of humanity to today, where you can be inspired and find many of the advice that we never imagined.

By the way, do not pay so much attention to pessimists, you will always meet them with their good logical reasoning, we all have a little trouble understanding something with theory and that you have never experienced.

-The Wright brothers were also called crazy for having the idea of creating a device that would transport humans by air, after many attempts, failures, humiliations, etc ... they got something that ... centuries later we all already enjoyed Airbus A380.
-To Elisha Graves Otis, for her idea of creating something else to transport humans in houses with flats… ..after many attempts, failures, humiliations, etc… .. She got something that… centuries later we all already enjoy an elevator that transports us in skyscrapers of 50, 100, 200, etc. floors, Eiffel Tower
    - To Jesus, Buddha, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, etc. for their great works in the spiritual field… ..
-Read the biography of the greats in all the fields of our lives (Ghandi, Mandela, Amancio Ortega, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Napoleon Bonaparte, Tomas Alva Edison, Nicola Tesla, Mark Zuqueberg, Jack Mao, Henry Ford, Barac Obama, Benjamin Franklin, Carlos Slim, Coco Chanel, etc, it's an endless list)

    Hope this can help you

Hi! 🙂 Your idea seems great to me, but perhaps no one has done it because some publishers reserve their intellectual property rights that such content cannot be rented. Not in all the books I have seen that, but anyway I think it is a valid point to consider. For that reason, public libraries do not charge.

And another reason to consider is that it would probably not be very profitable, since buying books is relatively cheap, and paying to have to return it later may not sound like a good deal.

Good afternoon, I really liked your article because, precisely, I intend to do something very similar to what you mention. I would like to open, in the near future, a "paid library" as you very well point out, only that, in my case specifically, it will be specialized in Astrology. I am trying to gather, compile the best and extensive Astrology library, in Spanish for now, and at least with the best copies, and then assemble, something that is still an outline, that kind of «library». Then I would include more topics, we'll see, but it is something that I plan to do.
Sorry I have not introduced myself, I am Fernando Sordo and you can see my blog which is: Paremias, astrology and other things of interest.
If you could give me any advice I would really appreciate it.
    All the best

I am making my investments to create a private Library but I am doing it little by little since it is a somewhat difficult business but I feel that it is a good idea I thought I was the only one who was turning this issue around in his head. I am from Panama, greetings.
