Kindle offer for February 4 for only € 59

Amazon devices

Although I confess that I am not very much a fan of Kindle, it is an offer that is attractive even to me: only today Amazon has decided to offer its Basic Kindle for only € 59,00.

Obviously not the Kindle Paperwhite (Kindle's newest star) but he is a really attractive reader and I recognize that they are good readers, although for me they lack some characteristics that I consider important in a reader. However, it cannot be denied that it has an excellent screen, a very adequate size and a fairly low weight that make it very comfortable and manageable.

I leave you the basic technical characteristics to give you an idea of what this device can offer:

  • Screen 6 ″ electronic ink cartridge, with 16 shades of gray.
  • Dimensions 16,6 cm x 11,4 cm x 0,87 cm and a weight of 170 grams.
  • Ability to storage: 2 GB not expandable.
  • Connection USB and wifi.
  • Duration of the battery: approximately one month with Wi-Fi disabled and an average reading of half an hour a day.
  • Formats which supports: AZW3, AZW, TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI and PRC in their original format; HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP by conversion.
  • The box includes the reader, USB 2.0 cable and Quick Start Guide.

As I already told you, I am not a big fan of Kindle, not because of a quality issue (which I insist is very high), but because I prefer readers with other features that Kindle do not have: support ePub, support audio files (especially the TTS function), greater storage capacity, possibility of expanding the memory using cards ...

Kindle 4

However, it has other options that I find very attractive such as dictionary lookup, syncing with our Amazon account, parental control, bookmarks, notes and underlines, etc. Parental control seems extremely interesting to me, in fact it is something that I miss in other much more expensive and "complete" readers.

It is certainly a basic but very interesting reader which, at that price, is even more interesting. So if you haven't made up your mind yet and you have a limited budget, don't miss out on this offer because it's really worth it.

Absolutely recommended for those who want to make the leap to the electronic book. At that price, no reader offers the reading quality of the Kindle. I bought it in July for € 99 and I don't think I have made a better purchase in my entire life.

Its gaps are easily filled with Caliber and Amazon's cloud storage space (5GB). There are only two drawbacks that are hopeless: that you cannot wear audiobooks and that it is not tactile. To make annotations or surf the internet, the keyboard is uncomfortable, but on the other hand, being non-tactile avoids fingerprints on the screen.

And I add to all the advantages mentioned the possibility of regulating the page refresh rate. Most electronic ink readers refresh at each page turn, producing that black screen flicker that can be annoying to the uninitiated. With the Kindle we can let it refresh at each page turn, or choose to do so every 6 page steps. Using this option, the screen is not completely cleaned and the previous page leaves a small trace, imperceptible in the first passes, something noticeable in the fifth pass and that disappears when refreshing in the sixth. It's a matter of taste, but this option is much more comfortable for me.

I advise anyone who wants to buy it and is not completely convinced to look on YouTube, where there are very good reviews of the device.

Completely agree, for that price it is a more than great basic reader. Totally advisable to make the leap to digital reading.

I am looking for an E-Book that reads PDF's well. I need electronic ink because I read a lot and the PC screen is destroying me, but I need PDF's to be read well because it is by far what I read the most (academic-business use) and it wouldn't do me any good if I couldn't read the PDF's. What do you recommend?

Ah, with a browser to download the PDF's and Wifi would be the last thing.

To read PDF I do not recommend the Kindle, I do not know if the Paperwhite will have improved but with the basic one they do not read well.

If we want to read PDF on the Kindle, it is best to install Duokan, as they comment, the experience improves a lot 😉

To read pdf I use my large reader, an Onyx Boox M92 (which is approximately the size of a hardcover book), because most of the documents are "mock-up" in A4 or similar size (except those that are specifically prepared for 6 ″, something quite rare unless the person who is going to read them has redone them).

Anyway, it is something that goes according to taste, I may tell you not to use a 6 ″ reader and two minutes later someone appears to assure that I am wrong and that 6 ″ readers are the best invention in the world after the nocilla sandwich with chorizo ...

If you want it to read academic or work texts (with many graphs, diagrams, etc.) in pdf, I recommend that you take a look at 9,7 ″ readers. In the blog you have reviews about the Onyx I mentioned and the Tagus Magno, but you can also look at the Kindle DX (don't rule out a second-hand or refurbished one), the Pockebook Pro 912, some Hanvon, BQ seems to remind me that it also has a large model (I speak from memory), it is only a matter of searching, although there is not much variety.

Carallo but those of more than 6 inches rise in wreck a lot! I will have to search Ebay.

True, they are more expensive, hence I recommended that you also look for second-hand and refurbished ones.
