Are the big publishers destined to disappear?

Books on demand

In recent days we are talking about the role of the publisher, of the great publisher in the world of publication. Many experts in the field and large publishers have given their opinion on this, which makes the subject even more interesting because it not only talks about its current situation but also the role that the ebook and Amazon are playing in all this.

Many already recognize Amazon as a great publisher whose low prices they are difficult to overcome and for that reason it does not need the help of the big publishers to survive. But Will this be the future of all ebookstores? What will happen to the big publishers?

Finally, many already consider Amazon as one of the great publishers in the market

For quite some time we have been noticing the presence of Amazon as a large publisher, something that is now undoubted but that is going to annoy the rest of the large publishers. The prices of ebooks and books from Amazon are really low but it is something that can be surpassed. Many already warn that playing with prices they can face Amazon. It's more, some emphasize the importance of ebooks in this process. While a book has fixed costs like paper or manufacturing, the ebook does not and that will allow publishers to play with the prices of ebooks, lowering them occasionally or being able to offer offers.

The truth is that the ebook format still offers many advantages for the publisher and the writer, advantages that Amazon is taking advantage of and that more and more publishers and companies are doing the same as BookBub.

Personally, I believe that the five major publishers will not disappear in the future, but they will change, some will be bought, others will merge with other publishers and some may be downgraded, however the role of the publisher is something that will remain in force for many more years, even if they don't waste as much paper as they used to. But, What do you think? What do you think will happen to the future of the big publishers? Will the ebook be the tool used by them?
