America's Little Free Bookstores Are Being Looted

Small Free Libraries

A few years ago we found in the United States a very peculiar and interesting fashion for the most readers: offer small book stalls that you could grab for free. It is what was called "Small free bookstores" and that it was quite successful although they are not currently going through their best moment.

Several users of these small bookstores or owners of them have noticed that the books are being emptied and that these are being found in second hand bookstores. With which they claim they have been stolen

The operation of these small libraries is simple. You put a post the size of a mailbox or a little bigger and in it they place the books that can be acquire free of charge in order to be read and when they have been used, the user can leave it in another similar library.

This has worked well, but lately the books have been resold and even some have not only taken the books but also the pole with the cupboard to keep the books, being more vandalism than robbery.

Users and owners are already taking action on the matter and they have started to mark the books, without ceasing to be free but at least they will stop the reselling of books and this rapid exhaustion that makes the operation of Small Free Libraries useless.

Hopefully this problem will be fixed quickly though unfortunately this movement will be seriously affected and although in the United States it will surely be solved, possibly in other countries where this movement is known, the damage will be maintained or increased. In any case, it seems that measures are being taken in this regard and that is good for everyone, not just for its users. Do not you think?
