Polish publishers call for swift implementation of the European decision on VAT on ebooks

Reading on the subway

Surprisingly a group of editors are supporting the latest decision of the European Union on VAT on ebooks. This decision requires that member countries equal the VAT or taxes they have on the ebook to the taxes on the books, in such a way that in terms of taxes they are equal.

This is not pleasant for publishers and publishers who think that with this inequality they reduce losses. But surprisingly, Polish publishers have asked otherwiseIn other words, this new directive is applied as soon as possible.

According to the Polish editors, Lowering taxes on ebooks will bring many benefits to the publishing industry, since sales will skyrocket as they are cheaper. It is a real argument but in the case of Poland it takes on greater relevance.

Lower taxes on ebooks will benefit the entire publishing industry according to Polish publishers

In this country the sale of ebooks has exploded in recent years, the ebook being a beneficial product for publishers but also a product that has a lot of taxes, specifically a 23% tax, a higher rate than books.

Lowering this type of rate will favor the publishing industry of the country and the European Union, according to some, since 99% of the industry is created by SMEs and freelancers, which will benefit from a lower tax rate.

This request by Poland is quite unusual and although it does not have the weight that other countries have within the European Parliament, the truth is that this demand will positively support the measure and will cause more countries to support or make this request in their respective territories. Although it is also true that the situation in Poland and Polish publishers is not the same as that of other European Union countries such as Spain.
