It is forbidden to photocopy a book, the fine can be 7.148 euros

Book

It's been a few weeks since we commented on this same website through an interesting article about the prohibition of making a backup copy even for personal use of a digital book  and a few days ago we learned of the fine imposed on a Murcian photocopier for photocopying books, which is also expressly prohibited by law.

The fine has an amount of 7.148 euros that will go to the Spanish Center for Reprographic Rights (CEDRO) for the illegal reproduction of books also having to cease immediately in the performance of these practices as can be read in the sentence of the Provincial Court. As a curiosity, the copy shop will also have to take charge of the 600-euro bill issued by the private detective who was hired to discover the facts.

The sentence already appealed on several occasions says; "It must be declared that an action worthy of being classified as an illicit reproduction of printed works or illegal reprography that violates intellectual property rights has been carried out."

The illegal situation was reported by one of the authors of the books that they were apparently being photocopied on a regular basis at the copy shop and that he was also claiming much higher compensation (20.300 euros) than that set with the fine.

These practices are usually common, they are quite common in almost all Spanish copy shops and even in many cases the copies of copies It is carried out by oneself at the personal address, which does not mean that it ceases to be an act that can be classified as illicit reproduction and that is worthy of a fine.

Did you know that it is not allowed to photocopy entire books or parts of them?If you did not know, be careful with what you copy and photocopy because you can get a surprise in the form of a large fine.
