5 real alternatives to Pocket

5 real alternatives to Pocket

Almost a week ago we could see how Pocket, one of the most used reading applications on the Web, I was starting to create a premium version, an enhanced version of Pocket that is purchased for a monthly fee. Therefore, we have seen fit to make an article with the real alternatives to this app.

Of course, these alternatives are a few and they may not suit you, since each one is different, as many of you will not have opted for Pocket at the time.

Send to Kindle, the classic.

Send To Kindle is perhaps the best known and as old as Pocket. It is one of the most complete alternatives that exist, with the only downside that it is oriented to Kindle devices, so many cannot use it or simply do not use it because they read on several devices. Like Pocket and many others, Send To Kindle is free and all you need is an Amazon account.

Instapaper, the eternal rival.

Instapaper is a service almost the same as Pocket but it belongs to another company, specifically to Betaworks, the company that owns Digg Reader. It is almost the same as Pocket, the only thing that differentiates it from the first is that there are applications that use Pocket and not Instapaper, but it is something that will change since Instapaper is one of the best alternatives.

Evernote Web Clipper, the unnoticed one.

Evernote Web Clipper is one of the more unknown alternatives. It is a service within Evernote although we do not have to have the Evernote premium account or anything like that. It is a browser extension that captures the web, pre-formats it for reading and allows us to send it wherever we want. Simple, fast and light. The downside is that it is not widely used by third party programs.

Wallabag, the free option.

With Pocket and Send To Kindle, the alternatives to read webs afterwards skyrocketed, everyone wanted to have something similar to Pocket and Send To Kindle, but everyone wanted to charge for their services. Wallabag is a free and Open Source option, simple but powerful. We also have its code so it can be modified to your liking if you have the necessary knowledge.

Readability, the third in contention.

Beside Pocket and Instapaper, Readability is one of the most used alternatives. Like the rest, Readability can be found in many applications and there are many variants to use Readability: browser app, iOS app, Android app, etc…. Perhaps the only difference with respect to the rest is that Readability allows the direct sending of the saved webs to our email, as if it were an attachment.

Conclusion on these alternatives

These are the five most popular alternatives that can best replace Pocket, but as in almost everything, this depends on your tastes and uses, it may be that if you do not have a Kindle, Send To Kindle is not the best option, but for those who have a Kindle if it will be and so on with everything. But at least I hope it serves as a reference for those who want to stop using Pocket.
