They publish an unpublished horror tale by HG Wells

Surely many of you when reading the title think that it is a typical invention of the writer, something that already existed but has been renamed or is not by the same author as we think. Well, you are wrong. Recently a horror tale by writer HG Wells has been found.

A story that will be published like the rest of his work and that has been discovered while registering the manuscripts of the famous writer. This story is called "The Haunted Ceiling" which in Spanish could be translated as "The Haunted Roof."

This work has been found when the University of Illinois decided to digitize the archive they had of HG Wells and create a collection of his work. So they hired young students to photocopy and digitize all the manuscripts.

HG Wells wrote quite a few horror plays in his youth

And it was among these manuscripts that this horror tale was found. Analysts indicate that it was written in 1890 when the author was 30 years old and prone to writing horror stories, since The Haunted Ceiling is not the only story the author has of this genre.

The work will be published first in English and little by little it will be translated into other languages, including Spanish. It will also be digitized, something curious because less time will pass between this work and his ebook than between other works by the author and their respective ebooks, despite the fact that they are more recent in the writer's line.

In any case, it is still curious how maintenance and conservation work are discovering new works and new texts that established authors that are no longer with us.

HG Wells is an example of this, but there are other authors who have similar cases and other similar more problematic cases such as the Anne Frank affair. Personally, I think that these tasks should be part of the archivist or librarian's job, as mandatory as money to buy new books or to lend books. Do not you think?
