Sony returns to the world of the eReader with the Sony DPT-CP1

SonyDPT-CP1

The Sony company does not abandon the world of the eReader, although it is true that those times are far behind when the eReaders they created were related to an online bookstore. During the last hours, Sony has unveiled a new large screen eReader which has been dubbed as the Sony DPT-CP1.

This eReader is more similar to the so-called digital notebooks rather than a simple eReader, however, it offers many elements of an eReader that more than one user will value positively. The Sony DPT-CP1 has a 10,3-inch screen with a resolution of 1404 × 1872 pixels, in total, 272 ppi. The screen is not from E-Ink but from the Netronix company. This device, unlike other eReaders does not have a Freescale processor but a Marvell IAP 140 quad-core processor with 16 Gb of internal storage. This SoC is not found in many devices but Sony ensures that it can offer the same monthly autonomy as other devices, but also, using bluetooth, NFC and Wifi. Yes, this Sony DPT-CP1 has NFC connectivity that allows you to link the eReader with other accessories such as speakers, headphones and even issue payments through the notebook.

The display will be compatible with a stylus or digital pen that comes with the device, so that we can take notes or underline readings and save it to the device.

The Sony DPT-CP1 is a device that will arrive in Japan during the month of June at the price of 650 dollars, about 525 euros at the exchange. A high price for an eReader but possibly one of the lowest prices in the market for digital notebooks and even compete with some high-end tablets.

Sony created the DPT series for business environments, hence these devices focus on the stylus and not on offering an online library. Hence, the price is interesting and also represents an improvement over its previous version, which was more expensive, with less resolution and capabilities. We do not know yet the units that will be sold of this Sony DPT-CP1 but something tells me that there will be few What do you think? What do you think of this new eReader? Why would you buy such a device?

One thing…why if I go directly into Todoereaders.com I don't see this article yet? I had to enter through the Twitter link. It's not the first time it happens to me. I don't understand.

Regarding the ereader, this is to say that I find it very interesting for a certain niche. For example, for students or people who want to read .pdfs in a more portable device than 13,3 ″. I think that in these 10,3 ″ this type of files should also be quite decent. Personally, I have always thought that color would be very important for this type of screen but I am beginning to lose hope of one day seeing a reflective color screen and more since rumors suggest that Liquavista is about to close. Clearink left… one of these years.

Two notes about this ereader, one is that like its older brother it will only be valid for .pdf, it seems to me a great setback. On the other hand, this ereader weighs only 240 grams. It seems to me an authentic past, almost a miracle, such a low weight in a device of more than 10 ″.

Personally, the 10,3 ″ ereader that attracts me the most is the Onyx Book Note… too bad it doesn't have a light or an SD reader. If I had them I would think very much about your purchase.

I wonder if Amazon and Kobo have an ereader of this size in mind ...

    Hello Javi.

We have spent a season showing the articles on / blog instead of on the home page. That's why you didn't see them, although they kept appearing on the feed and on social networks. Now he is back as usual.

We are testing the project. 🙂

    All the best

I am interested in a large ereader, I am not interested if it does not have micro sd expansion slots, or at least that the usb port is OTG, that is, it can manage a removable secondary memory, I do not know if you can confirm if this device supports the connection of usb memories through the usb port and is able to manage the files. Another serious flaw in my opinion is that the battery is not easily replaceable by the user, it leads to programmed obsolescence and not having the certainty if the device is really without power, I am not going to spend much less the money that is ask for these kits without these features. Being able to have them, I find it unacceptable that they dispense with them.

Notebook and reader as far as I know there is no ereader with such a usb port. I repeat: as far as I know.
Yes, I know there are big screen ereaders with microsd card readers. For example Onyx has announced the 9,7 ″ Book Note S with 16 gb + sd reader up to 32 gb. Of course, it has not yet reached the market (nor is it known when, although this year for sure) or the price.
Then you have the Onyx Boox Max on the 13,3 ″ screen. It has 16 gb + sd up to 32. Be careful, this model is the one from last year. This year's model has 32GB of memory but no card reader. You have it in amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/0285175270?hvdev=c&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=&linkCode=ll1&tag=readers0e-20&linkId=e15f36231b089456bfb6f08d07b3a658&language=es_ES&ref_=as_li_ss_tl and in some other store.
I think there is another model of ereader on a 10-inch screen or more with a sd reader ... but not many more, that's the truth.

I also peeked out from time to time without noticing new items; thanks for making you visible once more.
Regarding Sony, I am glad that it is returning to this market, I have had two readers of this brand, a PRS-505 and a PRS-T3, both finding, at the time, excellent quality devices that gave me hours of excellent readings .
Even so, this equipment that you show us, I suspect that it is something else, obviously aimed at another market segment: A notebook that also manages PDF.
