Sony Reader PRS-T3 VS Sony Reader PRS-T2, duel of brothers

Sony

It has been several days since the new Sony Reader PRS-T3 It is for sale in many countries of the world although not for example in the United States and Yes, in Spain where last Monday we checked that it could be bought for 149 euros in a famous technology store and today we want to face him in a duel in the sun with his little brother who they say is so similar, the Sony Reader PRS-T2.

The differences between one and another device I already warn you that they are not too many although the few that have been introduced in the new device by Sony perhaps if they are worth it to acquire the new Sony Reader PRS-T3 although, for example, as is my case, we own the previous model.

First of all we are going to put in order the main characteristics of each of the two devices.

Sony eReader

All the  main features of the new Sony Reader PRS-T2 are:

  • Display: Incorporates a 6 ″ anti-reflective e-ink Pearl display, 600 × 800 pixels, 16 gray scales
  • Dimensions: 17 cm × 11 cm × 0,91 cm
  • Weight :: 164 g
  • Battery of Lithium-ion with a duration of eight weeks (with wireless deactivated and approximately half an hour of daily reading)
  • Memoria interna: 2 GB with the possibility of expanding it by microSD card of up to 32 GB
  • Connectivity: microUSB and wifi
  • Supported formats: ePUB, pdf, txt, BBeB (lrf), rtf, doc (these last three must be converted before with Sony software or similar); supports images in one of these formats: jpg, gif, png and bmp

Ebook

All the  main features of the new Sony Reader PRS-T3 are:

  • Display: E Ink Pearl with 16 gray levels and a resolution of 758 x 1024 pixels
  • Size: 16 cm x 10,9 cm x 1,13 cm
  • Weight: 200 grams
  • Battery: between 1 and two months depending on the use that is made and the connectivity options that remain activated
  • Memoria interna: 2 GB, about 1.200 eBooks, expandable using a micro SD card of up to 32 gigs
  • Connectivity: WiFi 802.11b / g / n
  • Supported formats: ePub, PDF, TXT, FB2, DRM
  • Other supported formats: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP

If we look carefully at the characteristics of one and the other we can conclude that the new PRS-T3 is smaller although the thickness is a few millimeters greater than in the PRS-T2. Weight is also another factor that has increased considerably and it is that we have gone from 164 grams of the previous model to 200 grams of this.

On the outside, another of the differences that quickly draws attention is the inclusion in the new model of a cover that we miss so much in almost all eReaders on the market and that will allow us to keep new electronic books protected without the need in addition to having to make an additional expense for it.

En the screen of the new Sony Reader PRS-T3 may be where we find major improvements and that is now this is high resolution (758 x 1024 pixels). Like the PRS-T2 model, the screen is still E-Ink Pearl and infrared touch.

Another of the great improvements incorporated by Sony is in the flickering when turning the page, clearly improving the ghosting problem suffered by previous devices.

One of the latest improvements included with respect to the PRS-T2 is the option Quick Charge or fast charge with which we can charge our device to read an eBook in just three minutes.

Undoubtedly the evolution and improvements of the Sony Reader PRS-T3 with respect to the Sony Reader PRS-T2 are not infinite but they are very specific and interesting, which makes the new Sony device a great eReader and with great differences with respect to its predecessor.

Buying one or the other is already in your hands ...

Another very important detail is that the new model does include, finally, an integrated Spanish dictionary, I hope that Sony will heed the complaints and have the detail of including it in an update for the T1 and T2

I can only comment on the T3 and do not recommend it at all. The screen must be extra fragile and the cover they have put on does not protect it. Mine broke in five months without being hit or abused and cannot be repaired. A scam.
