New Kindle Oasis, Amazon's First Waterproof eReader

New Kindle Oasis underwater

Amazon has decided to join the Hispanic festivity and it has done so through the front door. During the last hours, Bezos' company has presented a new eReader model, an eReader with an old name but new and powerful hardware: the new Kindle Oasis

This new eReader is the first Amazon device to have water resistance, to have a screen greater than 6 inches and still maintain the main Amazon features.

The new Kindle Oasis maintains its light folded book shape, a more practical way than any other device to hold the eReader with one hand. In addition, this shape favors having a second battery that allows a longer duration. The weight of this eReader is 194 grams and has the measurements: 159 mm x 141 mm x 3,4 - 8 mm.

The screen of the Kindle Oasis continues to use Letter E-Ink technology with a high resolution, about 300 ppi, but this time, the screen size is not 6 ″ but is larger, 7 inches. Thus offering more text per page and consequently energy savings by having to turn fewer pages.

Similar to Amazon's premium models prior to this model, the new Kindle Oasis has a touch screen, complemented by a keypad and backlight with 12 led lights that can be regulated to be able to read the device in any environment.

This model has 3G + Wifi, the premium model of Amazon devices. This will allow us to read and download ebooks without having to pay for data or have a nearby Wi-Fi connection, although we can use the Wi-Fi connection to download new content or buy new ebooks. But there will be a cheaper version of this model that only has a Wi-Fi connection, for users looking for a cheaper alternative.
The new Kindle Oasis also has Amazon's extra features like Kindle Unlimited or Kindle FreeTime, not forgetting access to Kindle Cloud Reader. The new Amazon eReader ships with two types of internal storage: a version with 8 Gb and a more powerful version with 32 Gb of internal storage. Like the previous version, this new model cannot expand the internal storage using microsd cards.

The New Kindle Oasis is submersible, but only under fresh water

But the most striking new feature is undoubtedly IPX8 certification. This certification allows the device to be resistant to water and shocks. Specifically, this allows us to submerge the eReader under water up to 2 m. for 60 min. Of course, under fresh water. Thus, the new Kindle Oasis is Amazon's first waterproof device. There are waterproof Kindle models but they are still old models that have been reopened to use waterfi, a layer of protection that has little to do with IPX8 certification.

The new Kindle Oasis not only has new features but also has a new price. The new version of this eReader costs 249,99 euros, forty euros less than the first version. You can get this new eReader from this link.

We are facing a premium eReader model, there is no doubt about this, but personally I think it is a model that it should have been. Namely, this new Kindle Oasis and its new functions should have been the first Kindle Oasis modelWell, we all expected an eReader with a large screen, that is resistant to water or with another special function and of course with a lower price. I have to point out that the price has not dropped much, but this new eReader responds to the needs and requests of many Amazon users.

If you are really looking for a high-end eReader, the new Kindle Oasis is a great option, but something tells me that it will not be the only device that Amazon launches this year, that is, we may know a new eReader that accompanies the Kindle Oasis What do you think? What do you think of the new Kindle Oasis?

This Kindle DOES look like a qualitative leap to me and I agree with what you say that this is how the original Oasis must have been.
I always said that I would only change my Paperwhite for a color model but the truth ... I begin to suspect that electronic ink will never arrive. They are many years waiting and no no.

This kindle tempts me a lot. Comfortable in one hand and with a larger screen. If anything I think they must have copied the Kobo Aura lighting system. I think that the yellowish light at night is a real highlight.

    Two questions I ask:

    - Does the model sold in Spain have speakers or bluetooth connection? I ask because in foreign forums it is said that you can listen to audiobooks. Will Audible arrive in Spain soon? Does this kindle come prepared?

    - Will Amazon one day allow its kindles to function as usb disks and that folders full of books can be loaded into them organized on the pc? 8 GB and 32 capacity… very good, but put your 5000 books (I think many more) in the device and start organizing them by «Collections». Heh

By the way, a pleasure to read you again ...

Oh and one more thing ... I imagine that the slight drop in price (despite being an improved model) will have to do with the fact that now the case is separate.

Hi Javier, thank you very much for reading us. About your questions, we don't know anything about bluetooth, but everything suggests that there will be something for audiobooks. In any case, the next few days will appear explorations that will confirm or deny this function.
About the price, it is possibly what you say, the absence of a cover, but I really believe that Amazon seeks to offer a cheaper alternative. And maybe if a new eReader is launched (along with this Kindle Oasis), the price is the most striking.
And about storage, I think it is impossible, since adding it is an open door for hacks, forks, etc ... which is not convenient for Amazon, don't you think?
    A greeting!

This Kindle is on the way. If you want, I do a review for the web 🙂

Well, that review would be very good. I'm seriously thinking of buying it. I am very interested to know what you think of the increase in the screen, does it make reading more comfortable?
