Kobo has more eReaders but is still not the company that sells the most ebooks

Ebooks Luxembourg

The ebook market is dominated by large companies and large commercial brands, but sometimes that is not enough to be the best seller. The Web Author Earnings recently released an Estimated Sales Report which ranks Kobo Rakuten as the fourth company in the eBook market.

Despite the fact that Barnes & Noble is having serious internal problems and that Apple does not have an eReader for sale, they are companies that still hold the third and second place respectively.

El report it does not stop attracting attention because B&N selling only in the United States is having more ebook sales than Kobo in 5 countries, something that is still curious to say the least.

B&N, despite its problems, is the third company that sells the most ebooks

Amazon continues to be the number one company in the ebook market with more than 500 million units sold and taking into account sales from four countries. Apple with its iBooks continues with a modest 62 million units sold, a figure that is far from the third and fourth seller and even more from the first. Kobo and B&N are close, but still, B&N sells 9 million more ebooks than Kobo.

Surely many of you will not give much credibility to these figures, but it is true that having an eReader or an online bookstore does not ensure that it is the best company in the ebook market. Factors like reading applications, quality of ebooks or simply the ecosystem of the company make more ebooks sold. This is fulfilled by Apple or B&N but it seems that Kobo still does not finish everything, despite the fact that their eReaders are getting better and better.

In any case, that you sell more ebooks does not mean that the company is bad, far from it, nor that it stops making eReaders. However Will the plans of these companies change after knowing this data? What do you think about it?
