KFX, the new Amazon format that will unleash controversy

Amazon

Yesterday we knew about the recent arrival of Bookerly to the Kindle. And it seems that this new Amazon source does not come alone. Since its presentation and launch Amazon has been using a new ebook format for its bookstore, a format called KFX.. This new format is not accessible to the user, that is, we cannot create ebooks in KFX format and upload them, but it is an option that Amazon is doing internally little by little.

The application of the KFX format is important for Amazon since it is a closed format that reading apps and applications do not have access to and that would prevent ebooks from losing their drm. Of course, the KIndle applications and app do recognize this new format, so the adoption of this new format would make KIndle the only eReader that reads the ebooks we buy.

Does KFX have any positive points?

The truth is that far from these restrictions, KFX has its virtues, not only the incorporation of Bookerly and its handling, but also the famous new syllables and ligatures distribution system that will make the eReader manage the pages better at a larger size. Although it seems silly, this is important for those who suffer from dyslexia and in general so as not to strain the eyes. A great advance but that cannot be shared at the moment.

How do I know if the ebook I bought is in KFX format?

At the moment the Amazon website does not indicate the exact format in which the ebook is, however, there is a small clue that can tell us whether or not it is in this format. If we go to the specifications of the ebook, where the file size, language, etc ... It will appear "Advanced Font Function" or also said "Advanced font function" if the word enabled or activated appears in this tab, the ebook format will be KFX, if it is not enabled, the format will be different.

Conclusion

Although it seems that the KFX format is very restrictive and that it will have a lot of controversy from users and customers, I think it will be a matter of time before this is maintained since surely someone will have the great idea to hack it or something like that so that it can be Manage by other programs such as Caliber, but in the meantime, you have to be careful when buying something on Amazon.

The question is to know if my ereader with the KFX format will still be able to read its own documents?

Honestly, when I buy a book on Amazon, I don't look at the format it has. Who buys on amazon, buys for kindle. We all know that, and it is not valid for other eReaders.
On the other hand, zero comma, it will take Caliber or another program to convert the format.

Well I hope so. I am outraged that I buy from Amazon and can not share the book with my husband who also has a Kindle and we have to physically exchange the ebook to read the books that we buy one or the other.
I know they have solved it in the latest models, "family" etc., but those of us who don't have the latest model, do we have to compare a new ebook?
