Packaging

color pocketbook packaging

The device is presented in the same format as the rest of the company. PocketBook has us used to good packaging that offers you a first impression of the seriousness and quality of the device. With a rigid box that you can use to store the ereader later.

I am going to focus more on the screen and the color function since the rest of the functionalities is very similar to everything I said about the TouchHD3.

Color screen

No doubt your color eInk display is the most outstanding novelty. The feature that can make you decide to buy it.

Accustomed to traditional ereaders, it is appreciated to see all the colored book covers, just like when you are reading and you come to an illustration or a graphic. Without a doubt, I believe that this will open the doors for more content to be generated with these types of devices in mind.

The color at first seems a bit weird. If you look at it, you can see the pixels, but if you let yourself go you will enjoy. Keep in mind that they are the first devices to come out with this technology and that over time it will improve.

The main problem that I see right now is that if you want to read comics, the 6 ″ seems too small a format. The color should be 10 ″.

I have left a simple video so that you can better see the color screen working and comparing it with a grayscale screen.

Color vs. Touch HD 3

comparative pocketbook color vs touch hd 3

Also clear is of the screen It comes with E Ink Kaleido ™ and multi-touch screen. That it is not better but different. Color comes with 1Gb instead of 512Mb. This improvement in RAM is appreciated to be able to move the large files that we are going to handle with this device well.

Also improve the battery by going up to 1900 mAh which gives it an ideal autonomy, from what I have seen similar to that of a normal eInk.

And another thing that I really like is that has microSD slot. Something that was missing in the previous device.

It doesn't have water protection, but it really is a feature that I don't care about.

It also does not have SMARTlight, but it is normal due to the type of screen.

Assessment

As an ereader in general we know that it works very well and that all the audiobook options, etc. are very appreciated.

The color screen makes you happy, but I don't think it's for everyone, at least for the moment.

If you are not going to read comics or documents in which color predominates and your intention is to read normal ebooks, it is better to buy a traditional one where the contrast with white is much better.

With Color you can read them too but with much less comfort than with grayscale ereaders.

Buy the Color

A new technology that will give us a lot of joy in future ebooks. Ideal if you are interested in listening to audiobooks

I agree with what you say that color makes the most sense on a big screen. A comic, an informative book with illustrations or a manual, which is what I see the most meaning in color for, are best read on devices with a screen size of 10 ″ or more. The fact is that this technology, Kaleido, has a very low resolution that is why the pixels are noticeable and it would be even more drab on a large screen.

I have been waiting for the arrival of reflective color screens for many years and I sincerely believe that this is far from having the most adequate quality but at least it is good that there are manufacturers that bet on it. If there is interest, the technology will surely improve. I have an Onyx Boox Note 2 and I love its lightness, its battery and the size of the screen but I miss the color.
Hopefully one day I can read comics, newspapers, science books, etc. on a large, reflective, high-quality color display. I also think it would be a great invention for students around the world. That day may be a little closer. .

      By the way happy holidays.
