Barnes & Noble hires Demos Parneos as new COO

Demos

Barnes and Noble just hire Demos Parneros as the new COO or COO of the company. He will be in charge of reports to CEO Len Rigio and will be responsible for more than 600 stores, merchandising, e-commerce and much more.

Mr. Parneros comes to Barnes & Noble from Staples, where he was president of North American Stores & Online. Have 30 over years of experience in leadership of all aspects of retail management, including human resources, operations, merchandising, e-commerce, marketing and real estate.

Mr. Parneros began his career at Staples as General Manager of his first New York store in 1987. He worked through all positions in various leadership positions to reach manage 50.000 associates through 1.800 stores and Staples' online business.

That is why Barnes and Noble are very happy with this contract:

We couldn't be happier to have Demos at Barnes & Noble, given their high level of experience in sales. We believe that your enviable record keeping will lead you on the best path towards our priorities to grow as a business and thus bring greater value to our shareholders. Demos has been a strong leader throughout his career and we believe that he will be very successful in adapting to the book industry.

The funny thing about this contract is that Barnes and Noble has hired another key executive with zero experience in selling books. And, at a recent investor conference, Len said they were taking their time hiring a new CEO, as they wanted one with experience in book sales. Already, there are several who predict a not very promising future for Demos at Barnes and Noble.
